OK, real short notice I have accepted a job to shoot a waterway / canal today.

This is for a city to be used in some sort of planing process. Additional details will be supplied when I show up. I will be working for a local photographer who I have worked for in the past. No problem here.

Now as to the problem..............it's raining cats and dogs! The shoot has to be done now while there is high water, flooding conditions.

I have a Kata rain jacket for the camera. While I expect to get cold and wet I will dry out none the worse. I have an umbrella but not sure I will be able to use it because of wind and I will need to hold / use it myself while also holding / using the camera.

I am sitting here trying to think of various ways to protect my gear. I am going to see if I can mount the umbrella to my back pack. Clumsy but if it works so what, this ain't a fashion shoot.

I will be leaving for the shoot in about 3.5 hours so if anyone has worked under these conditions and has any thoughts / tricks that will help, please pass them along to me.

I resently returned from a trip to the rain forest....it was like continual pouring of water that went from hard to harder. I was only protected by a plastic poncho and occasional roof overhang. Although the pouncho did a great job at keeping my camera dry....I would not recommend this to anyone who can avoid it. Had I really thought about preparing better for my trip to the rainforest in Costa Rica...I would have brought an umbrella hat big enough to keep my camera under and still shoot. Or had my husband hold the umbrella over me the whole time.

Way back when I was terminating cables in the field, I used to use a large beach umbrella to keep myself shaded and dry. If that is not easily available, perhaps an EZ-UP type tent (http://www.ezupdirect.com/). However these might not work well if you need to be mobile.
