Bncry The "Other" Category
I did a bonehead thing last night and inadvertently deleted a principal category on my smugsite. All the subcategories and galleries in the subcategory were auto-magically placed in another category called "Other" that Smugmug appeears to create itself for this purpose.

Great, my galleries are still intact, so no worries there. However, the "Other" category doesn't show up as category the Control Panel -> Custom Category page so I can't simply change "Other" back to the name of category I mistakenly deleted and easily get my website back to the way it was (though ironically "Other" does show up as a category on Control Panel -> Subcategories).

So, could the wizards at Smugmug Central either enable "Other" as a category in Control Panel -> Categories or rename it to "Alaska", the name I the category that I %$&@ing deleted (I've been watching the Sopranos on DVD quite a bit lately ).

Thanks.

You're going to have to go to each gallery, go to customize gallery and reassign them one-by-one to the appropriate category/sub-category. I don't know of any other way to do it unless Smugmug support has magic powers that we users don't.

Sorry, we don't have any such powers. Use the awesome SmugBrowser plugin for Firefox, makes this sort of work really easy. http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=47484

Not exactly "really easy". You still have to do them one by one, it's just a little more efficient than using the web to do them one by one.

Right, not 'en masse' but as heroes we use this all the time because it's orders of magnitude faster than doing it via the web interface.

Trust me, we know, since we have to things like this all the time

No! No! The horror! The inhumanity!!!!

That's what I did last time that I deleted the same gallery, took the better part two hours or so (there are quite a few galleries). I'll give it a little time and see if the Wizards can help me before I go the "manual" route gain.

Tip: Create a gallery starting with the letter "A", like A-none or AAA, that you won't really use for anything, just so that it will show up as the default name in the "Delete Category" drop-down on Control Panel -> Categories. This way if you mistakenly hit the "Delete Category" button, no worries.

This is how I apparently deleted that category; it's name was "Alaska" and showed up as default on the "Delete Category" drop-down, just sitting there waiting for something bad to happen to it.

I think I'll submit a "feature request" to have "None" be displayed as the default in that "Delete Category"

Thanks.
