is there a way to direct the phone to the iphone version of a specific gallery? If i post a link to a gallery online and I open it on an iphone...it just opens to main iphone smugmug page and not in the specific gallery

I dont know how you would customise what the iphone browser displays though

This brings up a point. I don't necessarily *want* the iPhone site to pop up unless I can customize it somewhat. It still shows the SmugMug icons and will let you spin back to the main SmugMug site, even if you got to it via my domain name. It is also missing an icon for when you put it into the application menu on an iPhone (and I was able to add this to my normal SmugMug site without any difficulty.)

It doesn't have to be fancy-- but it would be completely useful to be able to customize this site like the main one. It would make the iPhone site *useful* for those of us who are trying to manage our brand.

The javascript seems to work for both my iphone and android phone.

Does anyone know if it is possible and if so how to submit a sitemap to Google and also a mobile sitemap to Google?

Response about how javascript for mobile phones is working for SmugMug site

John, you wanted responses about how your javascript is working on mobile phone devices for Smug. I'm not sure this is the right thread-- I couldn't find the one I was trying to find. Anyway, I'd plugged in this javascript awhile ago. I don't have one of these myself, but I've been trying to solicit responses from my relatives who have them. So far, I've only gotten one response. It's from a techie, so he was pretty thorough. Unfortunately, it's not real great, and I know nothing helpful to say about it... am only sharing in case it helps you figure this out some more. (and of course I don't know if his experience is an isolated one or the usual) Anyway, here's the response. I hope it's useful somehow: (will let you know if I hear any more responses)

"I am using a Windows Mobile phone. (HTC Touch Pro) It has two web browsers; the default is Opera, and also it has Internet Explorer. Unfortunately, your site is not really usable on either one, however it looks different on each. I wish there was a good way to give you a screen shot on it, but I can't think of a way.

Basically what happens is:
-- The home page looks good, it expands correctly down the screen, scrollable. The only thing that is missing is the header image ("Winsome Works") doesn't show at all. Also down at the bottom there is an "Around the world" image which has a caption but no image.
-- Clicking on a header tab, like "Animals" Again the header "anna lisa's images" doesn't show up. But the rest of the page looks fine in IE, but in Opera the images are not within the frame (the brown box) they are basically left-justified on the page.
-- Click on one of the images, and the gallery images don't show up at all, basically the gallery is not usable at all. The header tabs show up, but not your header image, and neither the gallery thumbnails or the large selected gallery image show up."

I think you're just getting comments on how your site looks in his Windows Mobile browser. I don't think his comments have anything to do with my script because all the script does is decide whether to display the iphone version or the regular version of the site. How the given screen looks has nothing to do with the script.

OH! well, like I said, I'm pretty clueless! So maybe in his case, his phone is using the iphone version but would be better if he just used the regular version? But he couldn't choose to do that unless I take the javascript out, right? And I wouldn't want to take it out if it helps a bunch of other people. Is there anything I can tell him to try? He's actually a Smugger too, but he hasn't customized his site like I have. I should ask him how his site looks on his phone, since it may be my customizations instead that trip up his phone. I'll ask. Thanks for explaining.

The script only sends one to the iphone URL if you're in a webkit browser on a small screen. I rather doubt a Windows Mobile phone reports a webkit browser so the script would do nothing and I think he's just commenting on how your site looks in a Windows mobile browser. All conjecture since I don't have his phone in hand, but it's logical conjecture.

I tried the code, I can't test it myself so I'm going from what friends say.

From what I've heard, the big concern from my testers are that the flash doesn't work on the iphone, so I'm not sure what else I can do with that.

Other than that, one other who tried with a pda said it worked. "title has its bottom half cutoff, and the page is a lil wide (forced to scroll to see black space)"

If you could let me know what else I might be able to do. I do want to make the site as easy to get to as I can.

Thanks for the code,

Brad.

Hi John, should there be anything about Safari on iOS 4 that makes this stop working? My iPhone 4 isn't honoring this script.

What's the screen res of your new iPhone 4? To discern itself from the iPad, this script is looking for Safari on a screen that's less than 600x600. That may be the wrong number for the new iPhone4 screen.

OK, if you're using the version of the script in post #14, then change the 600,600 in one line to 1000,1000.

Changed, but no worky. Did I jack something up in my code? Don't think the flash detect code is working, either... can you have a look? http://www.moonriverphotography.com
