Wow, 66 excellent photos. I'm blown away by the number of entries - it's been a while since I've been able to put an entry forth, but are there more people competing now?

Many of these are amazing! The one called #13, "Come play with us, daddy" is boggling my mind. How do you do that without editing anything. If I ever saw that photo I would say it was edited that way. Kudos to the artist that pulled that off. Is it some kind of reflection? Either way, simply amazing!

Off the top of my head I think the last 3 or 4 contests all had 30 or 40 odd entrants. Im assuming this one had more because you could take a picture of absolutely anything, whereas in the others sometimes people can't come up with and idea or arrange to take a really good photo in time.

I put the camera on a tripod and dialed in a good exposure and white balance for the ambient light at a 2 second shutter speed. In this case I chose f/8 at ISO 200 and Tungsten WB. Then I put the kids in the frame, told them to stand still and don't smile, and snapped the photo using the flash, with a remote shutter release. In this case I used a SpeedLite that I held over my head and pointed down at the kids, but there's no reason it can't be done w/ an onboard flash. If you set a 2 second exposure and force the flash, I'm pretty sure most cameras default to popping the flash at the beginning of that 2 seconds. Sooooo, I instructed the kids to stand still until they see the flash, then RUN!!! into the playroom (the dark room on the right of the photo). So basically what happens is the camera records the kids standing there for the first split second, then during the same exposure after the kids ran away, it is also recording the walls and trike and everything that is behind the kids. That's how they look like ghosts. Here are a few photos of my setup: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Also...my kids aren't really that creepy :)

James, thanks so much for sharing. I enjoyed your picture and even more knowing the technique. Of course Im not sure I could pull it off but it neat to know. Its kinda like a magician telling how to do a magic trick, it may take away slightly from the amazement but it is never less amazing seeing how it is done. It still takes creativity, skill and artistic ability.
