I believe it's good practice to make your pictures clickable back to the smugmug site from a blog. But, it's also good practice to watermark your galleries. if you like a blog photo to a gallery with watermarking, of course the blog picture is watermarked. Since you are showing off on the blog, you have to assume a risk of showing the best quality of a few select pictures, not watermarked all over. Watermarking can only be set for gallery options.

I've setup an unlisted blogging folder that I copy pictures to, but that would not link back to the gallery with the featured photo so individuals could browse and possibly purchase other pictures in that set.

Any ideas on a better way? One thought I had was instead of linking back to the picture on smug, to link either to my smug site, or perhaps a gallery link to the photo I featured.

For the blog use a link like this. The img src is what's showing on the page and the href opens it in
a new window at what ever larger size you want. See my blog in siggy for it in action.

HTML Code:
<a href="http://www.yoursite.com/photos/XXXXXXXXX_xxxxxxxx-XL.jpg" target="_blank">
<img src="http://www.yoursite.com/photos/XXXXXXXXX_xxxxxxxx-Th.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a>
