Anyone Planning Eastern Sierra Fall Color Trip
I missed the 2011 season but plan on making up for it this year. Taking the first week in October to hang out from Lone Pine to Bridgeport. Looks like I get to go to the area the towards the end of September to do some work so it will be nice to do some pre scouting or shooting. Hopefully the timing will work out you never know what the leaf gods will do. will be nice to have the weekdays to not compete so much with the workshops and crowds that weekend trips. If any others are going we might kicking each others tripods if you ever done the fall color in the sierras you will know what I mean. you can be in the middle of a crowd or can find the hidden spots. Good shooting

Sounds like a great idea, Chris. I'd love to meet up and shoot some foliage with you. Keep us apprised of your plans.

I am Debating on making that part of the trip this time around I have never been there yet, but I have always been pressed for time in the past. But with the Full moon around that time could be an interesting subject

Why would you go to a pine forest to see fall colors?

Kdog, any interest in coming a bit further east?

Colorado has some spectacular aspen groves in late September.

I might even get out there yet again myself.

To see something I have not seen before I have been down the eastern slope many times but have never seen the Bristlecones or the Sierras from that vantage point

It's a thought, Jim. I have friends in Colorado I could visit while I'm there. Any idea if RMNP get the fall colors like that? I could potentially even hit the eastern Sierra on the way back to San Jose.

Nor have I! But why waste foliage prime-time to do it? I'm not ruling it out, just wondering why you guys are bringing it up in this context.

Only a consideration if I truly get bored with shooting leaves or if a storm comes through and strips all the aspens, it happen to me one year. All the high elevations locations were gone and the lower were still mostly green. Just keeping all the options open. If there are some interesting lenticular clouds hanging over the mountains at sunset the White Mountians might be the place to be

More wag. Less Bark.
You can shoot a day at BC pine and still be close enough to hit June Lake for fall color.

Good point. It would make a good side-destination. It's not like you need to spend a week there.

Just FYI so I don't keep you guys hanging. Unfortunately we now have a family trip on the first week of October, then I will be getting followup surgery on my ankle related to an injury last spring the following week. :(

Yup. You could do Movie Road, Coyote and even have time for the Buttermilks.

I am going to be in the area starting on the 29th of Sep not sure of the exact itinerary yet. But there is a full moon that weekend so I am thinking Mono Lake to start then down to Lone pine where I have to do some work then up to Bishop for another half day of work then the rest of the week will be spent through the viewfinder. Depending on conditions planning on camping up in the bishop creek area. Once it gets closer I will know more.
