The Hot Seat

A lifelong interest in landscape photography has led Eyal Oren to make a study of his adopted hometown of Marblehead, MA. As you can see, his dedication is paying off!

DSS 110 - Possibilities for "Smooth as Silk"
Heading to Colorado today - to see my Dad who has advanced Alzheimer's. I will have limited access to photo processing programs but welcome your input on these possibilities for "Smooth as Silk"....

1. Floating

(This was taken at the Baltimore aquarium with my new compact camera.)

2. On a Mission (or Pollinating)

Any thoughts on these? The bee and flower shot is tone-mapped but was rather dramatic from the start because of the lighting and contrast of the unusual color of the leaves around the flower. If I were to crop this shot tighter, I could put more emphasis on those wings with a title like "Gossamer Wings" or something like that.

The jellyfish shot was captured at the Baltimore aquarium with my new point and shoot camera. I was interested to see that I got better shots with the Canon powershot SX260 than with a 50D (the 7D was in the shop).

Thanks,
Gretchen

PS I hadn't realized that "smooth as silk" is an idiom. That may give folks an entirely different angle on this challenge.

Both of these are excellent. I like the first one more as I feel it fits the theme a bit better.

We are having some beautiful weather here in CO right now, hope you have nice visit with you father.

I really like the first one and think it may go well with the challenge theme.

I really like the flower in the second, but somehow when you were bringing out all the colors in the leaves the blue saturation became very intense - there is a blue halo around the background leaves and it's a bit weird to have such blue light on the bee. The flower petals themselves are incredible.

However, I do now have this compulsion to photograph a bumble bee and give it delicate sapphire blue wings, because that would be prettier than the real thing.

Can you dye real bees?

I think the first one is more "on-theme." Great colors.....both are beautiful!

#2 strikes me as "silky" for some reason. I would probably enter that one, but then again, I usually enter the wrong one, so maybe you should go with the other one :)

Thank you all for your input on these! Just for fun, I'll upload the original of the flower shot when I get a chance. The petals of the flower and wings of the bee were surprising from the start.

Enjoying my visit with my dad and the beauty of Colorado!
