Hi all, I'm new here and just yesterday decided to sign up for pro account. I'm loving everything about the site and can't wait to learn more.

currently I tweet alot and post on many forums, but wondering if there is a way to promote yourself, maybe via smugmug or something cool I dont even know about :)

(sorry if this is the wrong forum)

EDIT: changed "decided to go pro" to "decided to sign up for pro account"

You can join some of the groups on smugmug (bottom of the gallery settings). Nice way to share photos and get some comments from other photographers.

    Pro?
I am assuming you mean you decided to become a professional photographer?

Do you have a business plan?
Do you understand marketing concepts? How about a marketing plan?
    Who is your target market?
Have you researched the products to sell?
Do you have the right equipment?
Have you opened a separate bank account to be a business
Did you set up a set of books for tax preparation and billing
How about Licenses and Tax Permits?
    DO you have an accountant?
Insurance, Taxes, Sales Taxes, Pricing, Marketing pieces, software, workflow, ....the list is pretty long.

I can talk all day about this subject.

no, I decided to sign up for a pro account. I've been a photographer for about 8 years. I never intend on being a "pro" as in my only form for income.

what I would like to do however, is sell some of my prints via sumgmug.

Jeff your stuff is great, the blk@whites and skylines are fantastic!!! You should go PRO if you are not already. I think you are doing all the right things[facebook, twitter, forums]etc.Check out Red Bubble.com it's free and I sell more there than anywhere and the quality of photo's is amazing, I would think your stuff would win a lot of challenges and get front page showing which is a great way for free advertizing. Good Luck jeff. ps you get a free site and everyone can link back to smugmug to see more of your stuff.
