Working with a FOV as little as 6mm wide, small apertures are almost always needed. This means that the best resolution of the lenses may never be used. I know this to be a fact for my Printing Nikkor 105mm 1:1 and suspect it could be the case, but less so, for my reversed Schneider HM 40mm.

I shot long series with both lenses at f8 or wider. This was just a quick look and precise apertures cannot be linked to individual images. The first image is the Schneider, FOV 6mm, not cropped. The second is the Nikkor, initially FOV 17mm, cropped by about 25%. These images are definitely shot at not wider that about f5.6, f8 being more likely. The remaining images are the Schneider at f16.

The fungi are Discos, not the be confused with Discomycetes. They were growing, upside down, on the damp underside of bark-covered rotting wood on the grassy ground. They appear very pale, flesh pink to the naked eye.The arthropod is a mite feeding on one of the discos.

All hand-held with flash.

The stereos are crosseye and the second is from colour originals.
