Local high school softball tournament, my first chance to shoot softball this year. Just going through the photos I took and noticed I had captured 2 BOBS, 1 on Varsity and 1 on JV. Lighting was a struggle, at one moment it was overcast then the next full sun.

1) Varsity

2) JV, she got jammed, but was still a base hit

I'm excited softball and baseball has began!

    Brad,

The outfield catch is a nice capture. Followed by the last shot (throw from third base line) - although that shot is slightly crooked. The middle shot I can't tell why but the face isn't sharp - not sure if it's focus or motion blur.

As far as the BOB shots - I guess I'm just not a big fan of that type of shot. It's kinda cool to get the timing down but I guess in general I don't find batting shots very interesting unless there is something unique about them. In a lot of ways they're like freethrow shots in basketball or serves in volleyball. To make them compelling there needs to be someething unusual - either expression or in baseball a broken bat. The face masks on softball helmets make this even more challenging as it's tougher to capture a good expression.

Don't get me wrong - I still take the shots as parents buy them but as a photographer viewing sports images they are rarely compelling. Hope that makes sense.
