Lensbaby Edge 80 optic!
I am getting one! I keep renting a composer and have decided it is time to buy one. For portrait shots I seem to keep including lensbaby in the lineup. I get some regular shots then try some lensbaby ones. It seems every time I do, people select them in their set of photos. I just read a little comparison of the optics and was blown away by the Edge 80. That is what I have been looking for out of the double glass the whole time and did not know it.

Does anyone use the Edge 80?

It's a pretty decent 80mm lens capable of nice results when shot straight and capable of very interesting tilt effects when tilted around. You won't get the shift of "tilt-shift", but it's a lot of fun! Here was a blog I did with that lens if you're interested:

It's my favorite Lensbaby optic today save for the soft focus optic. I also haven't tried out the Sweet 35, but can't say I'm terribly interested in that one.

I like the idea of the sweet 35 too. But it is similar to the double glass optic. You can just adjust on the fly. The 80 on the other hand is a totally different effect. I had no idea about the slice effect it has until I read a little article on it. Now I must have it! I have a shoot coming up next week that it will be perfect to throw in the mix.

I've been interested in this for a while, too. I picked up a Composer 2ndhand for cheap a while back and I really enjoy it although I find it SO HARD to nail the focus!! That said, I've got some cool shots from it, even if they weren't quite what I was going for when I took them

Thanks for the link above

I have a really hard time focusing too. It is good practice for me. When I do get the focus I want I love it. But I would not count on it for a shoot. I just like to put it on another body and do some shots with it. That way I get what I need, then maybe get something really cool too.

This one was from an engagement a few weeks ago with the composer with double glass. I think it was at 5.6?

I think I am going to get the composer pro with a double glass optic, and add the edge 80 to it. The Sweet 35 is cool. But if I really need it I can get it later. I think 5.6 with the double glass works pretty good for me. Not much need to change that often. I do want to try cutting my own aperture disks and try to see what effects I can get with lens flares. Looks like fun!

The contrast of the single glass is fun to play with when it comes to black and white

Yes, this is a very fun system to get into.

Just did a southern UT trip and shot exclusively with the Edge 80. I am in love. Some of my favorite pics in a long time. I even managed to shoot some action with it. Landscapes, weird desert stuff, portraits, dog tossing. It was awesome. I will load pics soon.

Those are really neat. How difficult is this to focus in the slice compared to the "regular" optic?
