The iPhone Camera Thread

The built-in camera in the iPhone offers some interesting possibilities, especially when paired with some of the apps out there. I thought we could all explore those possibilities.

There's only one rule: the image you post has to be uploaded directly from the iPhone, with no processing done outside of the phone. You can do all you want in the phone, but when it leaves your phone, that's it.

Also, let's share our thoughts on iPhone software, too. What do you have, what do you like?

So, I'll start out with this shot. I was just playing with QuadCamera and CameraKit.

    Very cool!!!

My favorite camera app so far is ShakeItPhoto. Not as cool processing as above, but you get to shake the camera around as soon as the "polaroid" comes out, so that it "develops." :D

Here's a straight shot that I really like (no extra iphone apps used). It's been said many times, the best camera is the one you have you. In this case I stopped to catch the sunset from the car with my youngest daughter and let her climb into the front passenger seat. The only camera I had was my iPhone camera.

A couple of iPhone apps I like: CameraBag and 101 PhotoEffects

So true. This is the last photo of my father smiling. Taken with the iPhone, and framed for my mom.

On the Twitter, greenpea linked to thebestcamera.com, which has the best (go figure) camera app I've seen. I shot a stupid test pic of my dirty dishes with it, applied some filters, and uploaded it to their site, and my facebook all in one go.

Apparently, it's the #1 camera of photos uploaded to Flickr, and if you can get an AT&T signal, they say it sometimes makes phone calls too! :D

I have to add that the best camera app is also the biggest productivity killer. I spent much of my day taking iPhone pics, applying filters and uploading the pics. Good thing my boss is on vacation!

Nice. I wish I had an iPhone...but the best I can do is the free Blackberry work provides to me. It's an 8830 so there's no camera but we're switching providers soon and at that point I think I'll end up with an 8820 which does have a camera. I don't know what the image quality is like on the 8820 but we shall see :)

I went to the local Arts Festival this past weekend, and bought my daughter a bracelet. She has been known to dress up as a spoon, a fork and a spork for halloween in her, uh, youth, so when I saw these bracelets made of antique forks and spoons, I knew I had to get her one for xmas.

    iphone.jpg

Then we watched these kids rocking out. I was pretty impressed.

As free apps go, it's the best one I've played around with so far, allows a much higher degree of control over the editing of the photo than most other apps. However, don't get it expecting it is Photoshop CS4 :D

    infra red
    Hi guys. First Post
I was fooling around today and found some old 88 and 87 IR filters.

These things are so dark that you can't see much of anything through them if you try.

BUT if I held one in front of the iphone lens (as tiny as it is) Low and behold white trees!!

    look here:
    http://addict.posterous.com/infraredforreal

Now there aren't any great shakes they are total test images. I plan on going to have a look areoud for some prime IR shooting spots and I will see how good they turn out.
The big problem is the longish exposure and the noise which it introduces.
I have to say that I was very suprised that there is not an IR filter built into the Iphone. (I could be wrong) but normally if there is an IR filter the camera will not work with the 88 or 87 (DEEEEEP RED) filters.

Mine came from Harrison and Harrison. I still have not come up with a good way to mount a filter to an Iphone, I am not even sure it it worth the effort....That said I have been shooting everything from time Lapse to Panorama and now Infra red shots. It is kind of fun.
    Take care

A little birdie forced me to post this with a caveat,:D had no idea you could
process in the phone, have to get one and try it. All I had was my
500L+1.4x so didn't have room to back up the needed half mile to compose
    this. iPhone to the rescue.

I took a couple of test shots with True HDR today. Nothing to write home about, but wanted to show the results of the app.
