Book by Marc Muench, review by ian408

Most instructional texts are boring. If it's photography, the author details the steps necessary to achieve a specific result. Sometimes in excruciating detail. Exploring North American Landscapes is not--it's a refreshing look at photography and the photographic process.

Instead, Exploring North American Landscapes starts by introducing the reader to the family. We learn about the artist, how he sees the world and we gain valuable insight to his vision. We are introduced to Marc's father and his grandfather and we learn how their work influenced his own. Marc's mother is a talented painter and her influence is apparent in Marc's work as well.

To be sure, the book addresses the aspects of making a photograph. From the making the exposure to the final product, the process is explained in a way that makes it possible for the reader to create many memorable photographs of North America's iconic landscapes.

A selection of photographs from the author's favorite places is included to entice the reader to get out and make photographs of their favorite places.
