May not be right category for posting here.

When I paste one of the gallery URL in facebook, it also auto paste my bio which is not related to the place of travel. How can get it not display my bio? If they are keen to know who I am, am sure they know how to search me out but I wouldn't want to broadcast myself in this regard.

    Hi David,

This is because your DELHI/LADAKH gallery does not have any description in the gallery settings - please see my screenshot:

    http://take.ms/zAuAA

Facebook will use your homepage/profile meta description if you do not have any description added to your gallery description.

    Hi Tom,

Doesn't help. I hv inserted some description and still auto show my bio. You can try pasting on Facebook yourself but pls don't post. Below is the link. Anyway, why Smugmug have to insist there must be a description to overwrite the bio. Sometimes there is just nothing to describe.

    David,

Try again - usually this process takes few minutes to be visible on Facebook. But I have used Facebook Debugger to fetch the update information for your gallery.

    It should work fine now.

    Tom,

    Tks for quick response.

I still see my bio in Face Bk and dare not press submit. How to ensure this won't happen.

David please enter your url here:

    https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object/

and click the FETCH NEW SCRAPE INFORMATION button - you will see new info appearing on FB. It will take FB some time to start showing new information for you.

    Take care,

    David,

No - you just need to give this little bit more time - few hours. Those things unfortunately do not happen straight away.

    Abit confused.

You mean I don't need to submit to FB anymore? By filling up your link is good enough and presumably it will be posted in matter of time?

Does it means next time I must always use this link to post in order not to have my bio appear?

    David,

No - the Facebook Debugger link is only to show you that your new information is visible to Facebook. But as I mentioned it before - it will take a while before Facebook will show your new information on their system - this is something that depends on Facebook - not SmugMug.

If you are directly pasting in a gallery/photo URL in FB you can edit that text after it generates. Just click or double click on the text.

If you use the Smugmug share on FB you can not edit.

    Allen,

I understand we can edit later on. But as Tom said, FB may take hrs to post. So I can't be monitoring it always. But anyway thats not too impt.

    Tks

    Hi Tomnovy,

Its been 5.5 hrs and still not appearing in FB. I know its not smugmug problem.

I did as per your instruction, click "fetch new scrape info" and leave it as such. There is no "submit" button. Am I missing some step?

If I want to cancel the posting, there also weren't any "cancel" button.

    Are you able to advise?

    Tks.

    Allen,

That I know. But FB auto display my bio which I do not want. Tomnovy advise me to debug it so it will not display my bio. And has to wait several hrs for FB to generate it. Below is the link.

Its so troublesome. Intent to cancel it but don't know how.

    Allen,

How do we post to FB using smugmug feature. Sorry, stupid question, never done before.

Click the "Share" button on a photo and in the drop is "post to FB". This method posts the default stuff like your
bio if there is no gallery description or photo caption. As far as I know you get the default text with no way
to edit it. The text is chosen in this order if exists, photo caption, gallery description or bio.

If you paste in FB message a direct browser URL, on any photo, it uses that photo for the FB image. And after
the gallery with that photo generates you can click on the generated text and delete or edit it.

That off/on button, if I'm not wrong, is to allow your visitor to share your photos. Nothing to do with galleries.

Somehow I managed to circumvert the problem I'm facing.

I used "unlisted" link instead of public and the gallery description appeared instead of my bio data.

Alternatively, if visibility is public, than I think we can "trick" FB by deleting the personal data and paste the gallery description into the bio and I presume it shld display the gallery description (though I have not tried it yet). After that return back to your bio and paste back the actual personal data.
