Model photos in Vegas
Heading to Vegas for some work but while I am there I am planning on doing some modeling photos of a friend. Are there any places that are recommended to shoot at? I know about the Neon Museum but that is $200/hour and I can't do that since this is just a friend shoot and not paid. We really can't go out to the other places like Red Rock and such so I am looking for stuff along the Strip or just Off Strip that we can shoot at. I know shooting in the casino's is a no no, but I also don't want to do something like shoot photos of her at the Bellagio fountains with a million people in the background

Really? No car? Red Rock Canyon is like 20 minutes from the strip. Valley of Fire is an hour. These are world-class places to do outdoor model shoots. You could just drive 10 minutes in almost any direction outside of vegas and shoot in the desert against some Yucca trees for some cool shots. In 20 minutes you'd be to the dry lake beds of Apex or (um, what's that place further south...). Or head out to one of the access points on the north shore of Lake Mead. Or you could head out into one of the hills with a view of the strip for a background. Shooting on the strip is going to be like shooting at the Bellagio -- you'll be hard-pressed to get shots without other people in them unless you're shooting very tight, in which case you can shoot anywhere.

Red Rocks

Old mining area. This is Oatman, probably too far for you, 2hrs from Vegas, but there are plenty of others closer to Vegas.

Hope that gives you some ideas!

No, no car and the shoots would be in the evening/night anyway since the primary reason I am shooting there is for races going on at LVMS during the day. So indoor/outdoor shoots within cab ride distance

Exploring the desert
If you're up for a cab ride go to the M Resort in Henderson--extreme south end of strip. You can probably get some outdoor shots with strip in background from right there. For a grittier city feel go either direction off strip about 100 yards (although not too late at night!). The sides streets and backs of the casinos can be very cool urban backdrops with no tourists. May be a few local "working girls" to keep the background interesting.

If that is the hand dealt, play it to the max. Look forward to seeing some behind the glitz, urban gritty model shots soon!

Las Vegas Sign, just south of Mandalay Bay. There is a car park right in front, fake grass and usually some guy in an Elmo costume.

Well I suppose you have already made your trip but If not I have a commercial studio I rent to others when I am not shooting. While it is not a free location our fees are competitive, we are only a bit over a mile west of the heart of the strip and with 6,000 sq. ft. of camera room we have a lot to offer. Rentals include lighting, full access to the studio space, use of furniture and props. Our cyc wall is 30x45' and you can drive a bike, car, truck straight on it, park 6 more cars in the camera room and still have 3 photographers shooting on separate sets. Link to the studio is in my signature, we regularly provide this space to the local Las Vegas SMUG for their monthly meet ups.
