Smugmug Desktop folder view

Is SM considering developing a desktop client or simply a remote drive view option so we can add our Smugmug database to a computer in simple folder view (sort of like FTP or Dropbox type of view)?

We've had requests for a Mac OS X app, similar to what you described, and it's something we'd love to bring at some point in the future. We'll be sure to update our Feature Request page when we have more information: http://feedback.smugmug.com/forums/17723-smugmug/suggestions/3710229-improve-smugmug-integration-with-mac-photos-app

Thank you leftquark, I really hope you guys don't forget about PC users. We would really love to have a tool to customize (if not simply browse) our smugmug galleries in folder view, since some of us use smugmug as vault.
You cannot beat the unlimited storage and no file size limits, on top of that convenience of easy search and great online tools. :) Although I wish we could share pictures from hidden and private albums as single picture without revealing rest of the site/album. :)

If we improved some of the Organizer functionality would that help with browsing/working on the Desktop? For example, if you could drag photos right into a gallery in the Organizer to upload?

I use Omar's Send to Smugmug, so uploading is not actually the main concern.
It's just a personal preference of mine to use a desktop client to view my folders and easily locate a picture that I am looking for, as if I am browsing through my external hard drive.

Actually your organizer is very nice, most of the time I use organizer even for normal browsing because the gallery tree on the left is extremely useful. (This takes a long time to load on normal viewing mode)

However, if desktop organizer is not something we will have soon, maybe improvements can be made to SM organizer, such as being able to list the pictures in different views, like list with file names and dates next to them with ability to rename pictures on the fly. Remember the old organizer where it listed all pictures in a list so you could rename them? That, but in a prettier view.

I'd love to see a way we could drag and drop an entire folder and maintain the subfolder hierarchy structure similar to what the Amazon Cloud Drive app does. This would be GREAT for backing up photo libraries on SM. As it stands now (unless I'm missing something) you have to create a new folder, set up the privacy, add the photos you want, rinse, lather, repeat ad nauseum for every folder worth of photos you want to upload. It's a real pain.

Did you try Omar's send to smugmug application? I don't think it allows sub-folder uploads, but I am using it to send different folders at the same time, and it remembers most of the settings, however if you are setting password, you would need to do that individually for each one.

Like you, I am using my smugmug as back up repository, I don't really use it for much else. Yes, it might be an overkill to pay $60/yr to store my pictures, but it's the convenience of being able to reach them anywhere I want, and the peace of mind that comes with not worrying if my hard drives will die (not to mention ability to share a sub folder/album without revealing my whole website and pictures to others).

I think Smugmug is not designed for personal storage and "vault" capabilities, so they never really considered uploading huge batches of folders and maintain the folder structure.

I just wish they soon release a desktop client or an application that mimics "external storage" or something like dropbox type of client so we can browse/modify/upload/download our pictures in simple "explorer" type of interface.

A service like SmugMug isn't very useful if you cannot get your photos onto it. You'll see some nice improvements to getting your photos into SmugMug in the future!

Is there a roadmap or "coming soon" feature list somewhere?

The best place to find the status of items is on our Feedback Forums, where we are doing our best to keep items up-to-date on their status. I'm also announcing new releases over in the Product News forum.
