I've been back on Long Island for the big Memorial Day weekend air show at Jones Beach. We had quite a line up, with the USAF Thunderbirds and Breitling Jet Team performing, as well as visits by the big three WWII bombers, B-29 Fifi, B-24 Diamond Lil, and B-17 Yankee Lady. Throw in the usual aerobatic performers, and a gaggle of war birds, and it was a full weekend. As I usually do, I was down at the beach for Friday's practice, and spent four days at the American Airpower Museum, where most of the aircraft staged from.

1 - One of the Breitling team arrives - they are from France, and perform with a seven ship formation. This is their first American tour.

2 - John Klatt returns from performing at the beach.

3 - Of course, it was cloudy (as well as windy and cool) down at the beach on Friday...

4 - Thunderbirds open their performance, coming over the landmark Jones Beach water tower.

The Thunderbirds operated out of MacArthur Airport, and I was asked to shoot at a small reception for a client when they arrived on Thursday afternoon.

C-17 cargo jet which brought their support team and equipment departs.

The Moose ends up in front of the lens, meeting Lt. Col. Chris Hammond, Thunderbird commander and lead pilot.

As usual, John, you've done yourself proud with this grouping. Typically, your nighttime work is exceptional. I really like #s 6 and 7 in this series. Well done.thumb.gif

I've been up in a B-24, B-25, and B-17. While I've crawled all through the " FIFI ", I'd jump at a chance to go up in that plane.

    Take care,

    Tom
I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

Love these. #8 a fav of this series. #4 would move the water tower right and centered under the T-birds. Or ask them to fly a little to the left. Haa! Seriously a great series, and thank you!!

Thanks, folks, I really appreciate it! It's always a long five or six days, early mornings, late nights, running around the ramp and such, but in the end it's a great experience, both for the cool airplanes, and the wonderful people.
