Go to bed, or wake up to a spider. Taken at around 11pm on Wednesday night, this is a female orb spider/cross spider - Araneus diadematus. These spiders can range from dark brown to almost yellow. This one was orange - helping her to blend in no doubt with the plant leaves and the maybe even nearby house bricks...

First and Last one for me!clap.giflust
Why did it stay and pose? You bribed it? Spiders that I do spot....even if they sense me, they are long gone....

    Thanks SB :)

It stayed because I suppose it wanted to. I had to move a few of the leaves occasionally to clear a straight view for the lens of course...

Thanks for letting me know Paul! Add #5 to my fave list, just saw it from home monitor! It is fab! One more question, did you use any extension tube for these shots? Thanks.

I photograph spiders regularly in my garden, many of them this species. I recently found one in this pose and it let me take a series of shots, one of which was good enough to post. I then accidentally disturbed it and it went back to the middle of the web.

This is the only instance where I have seen this and had a camera in my hands, including for the same individual.

I had just one extension tube on for these (31mm) SB - I like to shoot using this or the 21mm tube.

You can see the web strand in one - but she wan't anywhere near her web itself in the main - it was a good 18 inches across to the left hand side.

She was quite helpful in sitting where she did, and abseiling along the way. :)
