Eek7 Heads-up: SmugMug's buttons are changing

I hope you can forgive my only cross-post, but this seems like it could be very important to people who've customized some of our buttons.

We've been working on new buttons for buying prints and checking your cart. Instead of using PNGs like before, we are using YUI-based buttons. In order to get them to match exactly our PNG-based buttons in all browsers, we made all the buttons on the gallery pages YUI-based:

Here are the versions for light backgrounds:

We've also made versions for the existing themes:

Here are some customizations you can do:

http://wiki.smugmug.net/display/Smug...September+2008

Timing: We posted the thread in support way back in June and the going was slow, but lately we've made great progress. I don't have an exact date for when these new buttons will ship, but we might be very close depending on how testing goes and the feedback we get from these threads.

I had understood that the number of people who've customized our existing buttons was very low. Are we mistaken about that?

Thanks!
Baldy

If you use one of our themes, any of them, as a base, you'll have to do nothing.

If you use any CSS to hide buttons, like

.share_button {display: none;}

for example, you'll have to do nothing

Will we be able to relocate the buttons to the positions of our choice? Would it be possible to integrate the YUI buttons in a user's dropdown menu in lieu of having them displayed where their default location is?

Hi Erick, I'm sorry you feel this way :( We've done a lot of research on this, and solicited a lot of input on it from our customers. The buy button is more prominent and folks won't miss it. They can be customized, but you can't get text links like before, I'm really sorry.

Did this impact the slideshow in any way? That has stopped working just now.

Custom SM Buttons

I've made custom buttons for the "play slideshow" button....with the update of the buttons, mine are not looking right anymore, can I get around this or should I get rid of my customization and just stick with Smug's design.

Here's a link to one of my galleries: http://www.joerallen.com/gallery/590...68692339_kH624

One more item: Do we just change the glyph psd file (colors, for example) and upload that as a jpg or png to our gallery of choice? Does the YUI-based buttons "read" the file coordinates for choosing the right button image to use?

Obviously we would need to update the path url for the background-image for the new glyph.

I'm sorry Allen, if one is customizing websites, then yeah, Photoshop is, in my mind, a requirement. I'm talking about making detailed small art like buttons, yeah :)
