Hi all! So many awesome shots! Some of my favorites were unfortunately DQ'd, so if you had to face that this round, keep trying! There's a lot of talent amongst you all, and I really had a tough time narrowing it down.

For this round, achambers and myself agreed on 5 images, leaving a total of 15 for you to make your selection from. The poll will be open for 3 days...so go, go, go!

Congrats to all of our finalists!!! :clap :clap :clap

I've just recently joined up with Smug Mug and Digital Grin (this is actually my 1st post!) and was getting my feet wet yesterday, wandering around the forum, when I came upon the photo "Winter Night "by Manfred in this competition.
Now I know it would be a long shot to be right, but this photo seriously reminds me of a spot on the planet that I stood at a number of years ago. It looks like is was shot from my favorite vantage point overlooking the city with the huge church in the middle of the image.
With that said I'd really like to know where this shot was taken, if that's info that can be given by the photographer I'd appreciate knowing.
What city do I think it is?? to me it looks like it was shot from the monastery that overlooks the city of Fulda, Germany. I know it'd be a long shot to be correct, but it sure does look like it based on my memories of being there.

TC you are not 100% right. It IS in Germany but it's the city of Aachen (Aken, AC)
seen form the viewing platform of the Lousberg hill which is slightly north to
the city center. The building in the middle is actually the town hall. The church is
somewhat hidden behind it. One of the commenters in the gallery got the place right,
but I wonder how he knew that not being German. Ana was also correct :)

Thanks Manfr3d for responding. I guess I'll be happy that I at least got the country correct<G>. Sure did remind me of Fulda though and that's a good thing.
I never got as far over as Aachen when I was there, I pretty much ran in a North / South line from Ramsbeck to Fulda and down to Wurzberg.
I did get to make a trip to Eisenach while I was there (Summer 1990) to visit the castle where Martin Luther did much of his writing. I don't think I'll ever forget, coming over a hill on our way there, the sight of machine gun armed guards and barbed wire fencing as far as the eye can see as we entered East Germany. According to my escort, who failed to mention it until we were back home again, americans at that point still weren't welcome in that part of the country and I had the honor of being one of the first american citizens to ride on newly built roads between East and West Germany.
I'd love to visit the country again someday, I'm sure many things have changed in the last 20 years. I'm working right now on scanning all the slides from my stay in Germany and will eventually have them up on my SmugMug site....stay tuned.
