Tutorials

Ever find yourself wondering just how someone managed to create an image using different effects?

Here are three simple tutorials we hope will encourage you to try something new.

The Hot Seat

A lifelong interest in landscape photography has led Eyal Oren to make a study of his adopted hometown of Marblehead, MA. As you can see, his dedication is paying off!

Africa!

Help Please...
I only have a few days before my trial period ends. I am a pro who makes a living doing weddings, portraits and seniors, even though landscapes are my passion. Anyway, I joined smugmug so that I can give my clients a place where they can order directly and I won't have to do all the work myself. The problem that I am having is that while I was able to figure out how to post photo, set prices and change the header, I am lost. I really need to add more pages via a navigation system. I need to add a page for a bio (not the smugmug one with the photo), a page for wedding and portrait pricing and a contact page. without these I am sunk. I called a friend in NY who makes webpages for a living and she said that this site is a bit complicated and that I should post a message here. Please someone help. Thanks...Dean

Bad news Dean, there is no easy way to do this on Smugmug. That isn't to say that it's impossible. What you have to do is to set up a hosted website which is where you will have your intro page, a bio page, a price list, a contacts page, and so forth (www.deansphotos.com or something). Then you'll use the Smugmug help files to redirect photos.deansphotos.com (the sitename is an example of course use whatever you want) to your Smugmug account. When you do that you can hide your Smugmug Bio and you can utilize Smugmug's (inflexible and much too difficult ) customize feature to add your custom header and footer (on which you can put links to the intro page, the bio, the price list, etc etc etc).

Alternatively, if you're really high speed (or you know or have the money to pay someone who is high speed) you can use your Smugmug account as merely a photo dump and you can set up a web page that uses the Smugmug APIs to interface with your photos and the Smugmug shopping cart any way you want.

Either way, you're going to have to pay extra for site hosting (which is on top of the domain name registration) and maybe web design if you don't much feel like doing that part yourself.

I for one will use this time to beg the Smugmug dieties to please make cobranding easier and to provide an easy way to do intro pages and the various other things that professional photography websites ought to have.

Please, please, please.
