Advice needed re categories/subcategories, pls.
Have been restructuring my site& followed John's [perfect as usual] instructions - achieved successfully. However, this inability to arrange the order of the now combined galleries & subcategories really stinks, especially since from what I see, the subcategories end up being placed in alphabetical order. I really need the 'Rustem Awards' subcategory to be positioned after 'Rustem through the years'. If I can't achieve this, am I better off making Rustem Awards a separate category as it previously was?

I had also wanted to make subcategories for each of us (Rustem & Susan) & then put ea. of our 'through the years', 'business', awards, etc within those subcategories but it doesn't make sense to do this if we're going to end up being after 'birthdays', correct? Have to assume this is so, unless someone can tell me otherwise.

In the meantime, can anyone help with some coding to place Rustem Awaes in between Rustem throught the years & Rustem Business?

Thx & really appreciate your thoughts on the whole issue.

Still wondering if there's a piece of code to move that one subcategory 'Rustem Awards' in between 'Rustem through the years' & 'Rustem Business'? Is it possible/impossible?

Sub-categories can be sorted among themselves. Galleries can be sorted among themselves. Sub-categories and galleries cannot be sorted among each other with this code.

I want separate boxes that show individual galleries
I want to have a separate box on the same page, but not a sub-category box that combines the galleries.

If you look at this page http://www.candidfx.com/Dogs you can see that I have a sub-category box, but when I add galleries to it, it combines them. I want this box http://www.candidfx.com/Dogs/Events on the same page as my main Dog Galleries box, but under it. How do I do this?

I want that page to have a top box that displays the dog galleries and a lower box that displays the dog events, but I want the individual galleries within those boxes to be visible and not combined. Am I making any sense?

Thanks!

Sorry, but that's not something this customization will do. It would take some custom Javascript to do that.

Searched on how to do this (combine galleries and sub-categories). Found this thread and your code. Plugged it in and it worked perfectly!

Thanks,

How to get rid of Sub-Categories "Box"
Hi,

I've added your code and my sub-category any gallery thumbs now appear all together under the gallery, but the Sub-Category heading and gray box still appear above the gallery. How can this be hidden or removed??

Thanks,
Susie

I could help if you include a link to the specific page you're asking about.

Hi,
I encountered the same problem as the previous poster. Here's the link to my site:

http://proofs.thecandyfactorystudio.com/Events

You'll notice the white box where the old category was before it was combined with the rest of the galleries.

Thanks!

Please read the first 5 lines of the instructions in the first post in this thread where is says: "Add this CSS:". You are missing that step.

hallo john,
just copied css and bottom javascript for combining subcategories and categories and it is really nice feature, looks more pro !

on :
http://labrophotography.smugmug.com/Events
can you please tell me how having small thumbs for all thumbs because it is ugly like that.

apparently this galery has remained in fix width, has no top padding between title box and first row and seems to have huge cell height. i would expect spacing similar to http://www.moonriverphotography.com/Galleries
Can you tell me how to make it more beautiful.

when there are different galeries in a category like :
http://labrophotography.smugmug.com/Animals
it is normal working but just to be sure, is it normal that when a category like night on galery page has only one galery inside, to have an intermediate level before opening the galery itself :

http://labrophotography.smugmug.com/Night

thanks
best regards

Thumbnail size is controlled by Smugmug. If you add more thumbnails to the unit that has large thumbs, they will get smaller to match the others. That's the only control there is.

This customization has nothing to do with the width. Please ask questions about that in a separate thread where others can help you. I like to keep these customization threads on topic.

If you only have one gallery in a category, you will have an extra level that isn't really needed, but that's the way Smugmug works. It's best not to set up your categorization that way. If you only have one gallery, put it in a different category that has more galleries in it.

Smugmug makes different sized thumbnails for categories based on how many galleries there are in them, but subcategory thumbnail are always small. I don't know anything you can do other than add more galleries to the category to make the gallery thumbnails switch to the smaller size.

Apply this hack and I think all the thumbs will be 150x150.
