Florida Coyote

The coyote (Canis latrans) is traditionally associated with the American West, and many people don't know that they are becoming a common occurrence in Florida.

I have been trying to locate one to photograph for quite some time now, and today I succeeded in finding one in the area of the Moccasin Island parking lot west of the Viera Wetlands.

Although these photographs are not technically very good, I was pleased to have seen a Florida Coyote in the wild.......

It was just behind the barbed wire fence

A crop to show the face

Four clicks of the camera's shutter and he took off accross the field

One last glance back to see where I was, and he was off

Photos are good! It's hard to get clean shots of coyotes because usually they're so skittish. Although this guy looks pretty nonchalant. Nice captures, congrats!

Great shots of a skittish animal.

I had two of these run across the road at 0600 while on my way to work 2 weeks ago. Less than 1/10 of a mile from my home!eek7.gif

Amazing since I live in the most densely populated county in the state!

they are very adaptable critters - last winter I had one play 4 holes of golf with us in Mesa AZ - I drag my camera along and got some good shots of him on the golf course - this course is in town not a desert course-

Here in Florida, Coyotes live in the downtown areas of some of our largest towns, Orlando for one.....
