Good tips for better portrait photography

I came across this site while searching for tips on portrait photography. Although I've read many of the tips on different websites, I found this to be a nice summary of all of them, along with easy to see examples on one site. I thought I share since I am sure there are others that would find this info as useful as I did.

It's amazing how many poses here: http://www.herrickphoto.co.uk/poses.html, violate the guidelines given here: http://www.lumitouch.com/benstudiotutorial/LightPoseGuideRules.html.

Some examples are "feminine poses" on the guy (head tilts towards shoulders) and back-of-hands showing on many gal poses. Just goes to show ya...

All in all, fun links though.

I did notice that Joel. Since I started reading all this portrait stuff, I've been really conscious of certain rules and guidelines when viewing photos and I notice a lot of these rules being broken. I guess they are really guidelines more than anything else. After all, photography is an art and art is subject to the artists style and creative interpretation. Can't be too creative if your stuck in a rigid box of rules.
