Dgrin Sharp Shooters Challenge #55

Welcome to Round #55 of the Dgrin Sharp Shooters Challenges. This challenge is open to any Dgrin member. It will run from Monday, July 12, 8:00am PST time (GMT -7) on through Monday, July 26, 8:00am PST time (GMT -7).

The topic ready for your interpretation: Stripes

What image do you see? Show us. Depending on where you live you might envision 3 colors for your stripes or maybe just one.
Find stripes around you. Show us your stripes. Follow the stripe. There is a pattern to it.

A personal example from 2005
Titled "Light stripes"

Your Judges:
lizzard_nyc: (Winner of Round 52)
Guest Judge: jeepzj94

IMPORTANT NOTE: Your entry is to be submitted directly into a SmugMug gallery. It's pretty simple, just go to the gallery link below, and follow the upload instructions at the top of the page: Remember, the basics stay the same: 1 entry per person, and the photo must be fresh, taken during this contest period. Do not use a minimal save method (such as "save for web"), and your EXIF will be embedded in your image, no worries!

To avoid disqualification, read, in full, the Dgrin Sharp Shooters Challenge Rules, there have been some slight modifications

Good one! I am already seeing stripes! The UPC on the box in front of me... the lamp shade...

This may drive me crazy before its over. I will be seeing stripes everywhere I look now! :D

So I read the new challenge yesterday and immediately started looking for stripes. It's harder than I thought. I found lines, but not stripes, not really anyway.
As I went to bed lastnight thinking of the challenge, it hit me and I sat up with a jolt "I'm judging this round!!!" I nearly screamed :D. Scared my husband half to death. Oh sure the cliches are flying now.

    This is funny rolleyes1.gif

You did your homework, at least :D

    * I had to judge twice, and every-time I did my own trial on the theme, to see how it works.
    - I have to say that both times, what I did, was not at the level of the entries rolleyes1.gif

I'm leaving tomorrow for the beach, so it will be fun looking for stripes at the ocean. With any luck, I'll find something!

I have a photo that is not fresh. Can I post it in the contest gallery anyway knowing I can't win?

It is funny and extremely stripe appropriate.

I am surprised this question has not been asked before (to the best of my knowledge). Nothing is stopping you from posting photos from outside the challenge time frame, just remember that the photo will be moved to a disqualified section before judging and will eventually be deleted. Also you could do us a favor and put a short note in the caption telling everyone that it is not qualified. Thanks.

There does seem to be some sort of glitch happening with the Simple "java" uploader

    try this uploader.

    http://www.smugmug.com/photos/new_add.mg?AlbumID=12899724&uploader=olde

    It worked fine for me.
I'm sure whatever the cause it is a temporary challenge that will soon be fixed by the SmugMug Wizards. :D

    A haiku back! Love it.
Patience is something I still lack. I keep hoping it will come with age.

BTW--I just saw Ghinson's post (just the title mind you) "Striper" and my eyes read "stripper" lol.
I thought "well that took a turn..."

Seems like that was a common mistake. Not sure how a stripper would bear stripes. Guess it shows that I live on the NE coast, where the term "Striper" is probably about as ingrained in most of our consciousnesses as the word "whale" is to the Inuit. Still, maybe I accidentally increased my views with the slightly obscure title.

I live near Lake Texoma in North Texas... it is full of Stripers. I knew just what you meant. :D

Sean, I just posted an entry "Passageway" and you'll notice that the date taken is 1/1/2000 - I just bought a new Canon 7D and forgot to set the date time. I hope you will accept this image, Chris Skopec and Danny Plumer can vouch for me.

Good thing I checked in on this thread!

Sean, I was there with Shimon and Dan on Thursday night, but I can go one better than vouching and show it:

That's Shimon taking the shot (he does in fact have a very nice, new 7D that made me & my XTi very jealous! rolleyes1.gif) and intact EXIF can be found here.

I know it's not the usual way for show the EXIF, but hopefully it's acceptable! thumb.gif

Your not the first one to start taking pictures with their brand new shiny 7D before setting the date and time correctly. Since the 7D was not even a glimmer in anyones imagination in 2000 it is obviously impossible to have taken a shot on that date.

The biggest reason your shot will not be disqualified is because you gave me a heads up. All is good! thumb.gif
