Definition of STILL LIFE

I did a quick search and would be happy to be pointed in the right direction.
First attempt for a while drawing form stuff laying around the house.

If it is the mouse-scull(?) that is the subject here,
then i would try make it more clear, the dof is too shallow imo and takes away the necessary details.
The scull itself is a good choise i think and it could work well.
A cleaner background is something to consider,
dont be afraid of center positions and try keep it as simple as possible to start with.
Dramatic light and high contrast can also elevate a still-life.

The skull is just a part, I liked the direction of the color and the lines that the shallow dof allowed, plus the blur is more painter like to me at least.

i take lots of these kinds of shots... although the fly snuck in this one..

I think both of these shots would benefit greatly from an increased DOF giving a sharper focus. An OOF shot is not to be confused with one with a painterly effect.

Mamba I would have to disagree, trying to define painterly is a tricky topic, such a wide range of media and approach/application.

The real shallow depth of field to me gives a feel to an image that can be painterly in some regards.
Mine was not out of focus it was how it was intended, a more open approach to art/imagery might be required however.
Sometimes the image can convey the intended story through color and blurred lines with small focus to bring things together.

With my image the stacker lense will not allow for sharp DOF and it is not what I won't.

Guess I need to make a disclaimer on each image
