Mamiya 645 150 3.5 Lens at South Fork Snoqualmie River - Twin Falls - North Bend, WA
South Fork Snoqualmie River at Twin Falls State Park - I 90 - 30 Miles East of Seattle - Saturday, 1/22/11 at 3 PM - Taken on an old Chicago Majestic Tripod with Mamiya 645 150 3.5 shot at f16 at 1 second on a Canon XSI with a an old polarizer.

The 645 lenses work quite well for manual focus and this allowed me to get close without venturing into the mountain stream.

The Majestic Geared Head works very well and the tripod was not difficult to take on a short hike.

I love the flow of the composition on this one. What type of adapter did you have to use to use the Mayima lenses?

Thanks for the compliment. I use a generic eBay adapter (Pro Mamiya 645 M645 lens to Canon EOS D adapter 7D 5D). MF adapters are thick due to the greater film to flange distance on MF versus 35mm slr and I am guess most would be substantial.

Hmmm.. Wonder if they make one for Mamiya AF -> EOS as well. Would love to use my Mamiya lenses on my 5DII. Would need some kind of control for aperture since it's electronically controlled on the AF lenses. :(

I have not seen adapters for AF lenses that allow for control of the aperture. Some of the early Nikkor AF lenses had an ability to control the aperture on the lens - and can work with a manual focus adapter.

The Mamiya 645 N and C lenses are reasonable in price. You can check on Keh to get an idea. A 80 2.8 is near $50. Here is a write up on a slr camera in case this is of interest.

Beautiful contrast. Nice simple composition which is very effective.

Thanks, the longer lens aided in this composition. I liked the contrast as well, out of the few images taken that afternoon this is the one that stood out. I took a few different manual exposure settings of this image and simply picked the one I liked the best on the computer.

Yeah, as much as I'd like to try, I'm not going to go buy lenses just for the hell of it. I already have an 80/2.8, 35/2.8, 110/4 macro and 210/4. Unfortunately they are all AF. However, will have to look at the Macro, since it's manual focus.. might have aperture rings on it.

Jim, do you mean a 120 macro. I think the aperture is controlled via the camera while the focus is manual.
