Photographic Lighting Simplified

Book by Susan McCartney, review by ian408

This beginner’s guide to lighting is a great introduction to the hardware and techniques needed to make an otherwise average photograph better with light.
Whether the light comes from a full-on studio lighting kit or an on board flash, McCartney walks you through the process of lighting your subject.

The first chapter covers setting up your shots and includes ideas for recording configurations that you can use later. In addition, a discussion of different types of lighting is also included.
Other chapter topics include Exposure and Metering, Lighting Aesthetics, Battery Powered Flash, Hot Lights and Approaches To Popular Subjects.
The book also includes several different assignments to help you put into practice the things you learned throughout the book.

If you’re looking to improve your lighting skills, this book is a great start.
