Borrowed my nephew’s camera to take some photos of my daughter’s senior season and thought I would post some pics to learn what I need to do better.

There's no EXIF data attached to these images. Can you share what equipment you used here and the modes you used to shoot these with? That will help us figure out what is going on here. The good - you caught some good action so your understanding of the game and what to look for is good. The bad - to me all of these suffer from one or more technical issues - focus, low shutter speed, exposure. These could have been caused by giving the camera too much control so knowing your settings would be helpful. Looks like a bright day so I don't think being able to keep the shutter speed high enough would have been issue but don't know...

#2 I like this one the best but looks like the focus is on the glove and not her face? Could also crop this one tighter. One thing I learned here is to shoot tight and crop even tighter.

#3 - horizon doesn't look quite straight. Wish there was a little more room under her feet.

#4,5 Exposure issue but there just isn't any detail to these shots. Are they severely cropped? Is it an artifact of posting?

#6 - Shutter speed too low. Look at the motion in her hand. Great expression though. Again I'd look more at the bottom or just crop tighter.

You've got a good feel for the game and where the action is going to be so build off that. Take a look here and here for some examples of other's softball work. I've learned a ton here so it's a great place to learn.

I like number 2 the best too. You need to work on keeping your horizons straight, shooting tighter, crop even tighter, less dead space, and you can get rid of unflattering backgrounds. Number 2 would have been better had the ball been near the glove, I cropped it tighter to show you.Name: Image1.jpg
