Vatican photography
I will be going back to the Vatican in June. Previous visit I took my wife's G10. According to their web site, if you want to take a tripod or pro equipment, you have to contact management. Anyone ever do that? Anyone just walk in with a pro body, or get denied?

Thanks.

Well, I only had a Canon 50D with grip (no tripod) and the 17-55 f2.8 and they let me in no problem, but that's not the "pro" equipment they are talking about. Of course, they attempt to prevent you from taking shots inside the Sistine Chapel. I'd just bring the fastest lens you have.

I HIGHLY recommend paying a bit more (89euro) for a small group VIP tour, such as this one:

You get into the Vatican one hour early, before all the crowds.

For example, on our way straight to the Sistine Chapel, it was just me and the 7 other folks in my group. Within 60 minutes these halls will be PACKED with people like sardines in a can.

Chris,
Thanks for the info. Yeah, I know it gets crowded, as this is my 3rd trip there. I only went to the Sistine Chapel once, as it is just too crowded, and sooo small. Otoh, there were a lot of photos made in there among the crowd. I have looked at that tour before, but I will probably spend the better part of the day there, so, I may, or may not do that.
