Snail Nail (yes, I don't mean snail mail...)
But in the age of photography on the internet, everything is faster than snail mail of course. But snails remain as slow as ever. I know, I know. It's a lousy play on words, lol...
![]() Anyway, here is a banded snail, slowly, ever so slowly making it's way across a bit of wood in the garden (belonged to next doors' fence once), at the moment or thirty moments that it came upon the titular nail... I wanted to accentuate the rust as much as the snail so I have very deliberately made it all over saturated and hope this doesn't make you dislike it it too much. Exif: Camera Maker: Canon Camera Model: Canon EOS 550D Lens: EF100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Image Date: 2012-06-24 18:53:51 +0000 Focal Length: 100mm Aperture: f/9.5 Exposure Time: 0.022 s (1/45) ISO equiv: 400 Exposure Bias: none Metering Mode: Matrix Exposure: aperture priority (semi-auto) White Balance: Auto Flash Fired: No (enforced) Orientation: Normal Color Space: sRGB GPS Coordinate: undefined, undefined Photographer: Paul Iddon Copyright: www.pauliddon.co.uk ![]() Paul.

Photo Nut

You've got a good photo. I like the composition of the nails and the snail a lot. But, there are 2 things that stand out to me that may be issues and might be holding it back from being a great photo. I think it'd be much stronger if you cropped some. The snails face is dead center, and I think there's room for playing around with crops since the essence of the whole picture is all within the frame of the nails and everything else is pretty much just extra. Also, a B&W conversion may come out better, since you're mainly focusing on tonal relations and texture. Maybe try less color than more.
I think the cropping is necessary and the first thing to focus on, and a B&W conversion is more of a personal preference/experiment that might come out much better for your intentions.
