My old SM Home Page Layout menu had options to display, amongst other things, Photo Communities, Friends and Family, and Most Popular Photos. TBH I'm not very communal, I have a small family and an even smaller circle of friends, and my photos aren't that popular, but I did find those options really useful.

Maybe I'm being a bit dim, but I can't find the same options in the new SM Home Page Content Blocks.

Have we lost this functionality in the name of progress, or have I just not dug deep enough yet?

Photo Communities, Friends and Family blocks are not available any longer.
Populars can be added using the 'multiple photos' block and selecting 'Populars'.

No more Friends & Family? What possible reason for that? And still no "Recent Galleries" instead of just "Recent Photos"... Good grief, people have been asking for this for ages. Wouldn't this have been the time? I just can't figure for the life of me why all this work to change everything, even things that were NOT broken or were in better locations before (such as forward and back & paging buttons in galleries) but then simple stuff that could've been implemented that has been begged for for so long.. wasn't.

Why isn't the title of the popular photos box "Popular Photos"?

Edit: Duh, just needed to title changed under edit.

    OK, done that.

    Guess what...

    it's borked.

In Legacy I see only 8 populars. That's the true number. Legacy works.

    BUT...

New SM shows those 8 at the top of my newly-created Populars photo block (created as per the advice above), but then

supplements them with another 42 that aren't popular - no comments, no stars, no thumb-ups, no likes (according to Legacy).

42 may well be the answer to life, the universe and everything, but it ain't the answer to this!

I guess this is another thing that either wasn't tested, or wasn't tested properly.

Bad news (just for a change, eh?) - I've just found out that it's a hell of a lot worse that I thought...

With the number of rows set to "Auto", I get those 42 spurious populars.

But if I set the number of rows to "All", it shows 1000 pics.

    Please sort this.

Silly me. I just asked the same question after doing a search but never came accros this thread until now. There would have to be a way of putting the friends links back in by doing it manually using the HTML & CSS box available. I managed to get my stat counter re-installed at the bottom of my new page but my HTML coding eludes me as to how to code links to friends pages. Made it so easy to check out what they were doing by clicking on their links from my home page. If someone could remind me of the html code for a link so that only the persons name appeared, (behind which is the link to their page) I would greatly appreciate it.

Sorry guys but I have found a way around it. It is a bit manually involved but it works. I have added a HTML /CSS box on the bottom of the page and used html coding to add each name individually. Use this code and insert the web link where it says and the persons name where it say.
    <a href="http://www.example.com/">Link-text goes here</a>
you can see a sample on my page at http://ozphotos.smugmug.com/
it is a work in progress. I am looking to add text to make it neater and some spaces, as soon as I find the coding for that.
A handy page for quick HTML coding is http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_quick.asp

    Further update:

I'm no longer bothered about this issue, it can stay wrong until Hell freezes over, I just don't care any more. I've supplied all the info that I can, I've kept a page of borked data -http://beardedgit.smugmug.com/Everything-else/General/Popspage - on my site for a week for Heroes to look at and it's been of no use at all, I've had no further email response during that week so I'm out of this issue.

The page of borked data will self-destruct within 24 hours.
