Multiple Banners

I can not find a way to change a folder and all its galleries.

I have a folder/category/sub-cat like say Weddings or Birthdays and would like a different banner/logo,
menu, background image or other things different from the rest of the site.

How do we specify style/CSS/html for a specific set of galleries?

    Multiple Banners
    How do we place different banners on different areas of our site? I want to add a different banner for
    some categories, or folders with flow down.

    Banners Folders Categories Customization
    Allen,
    I too am frustrated with the lack of information on how to customize the folders in the New SM. My legacy site relies heavily on the customization of subcategories. I use the subcategory to pick a different banner for each individual group. I find no answers on this topic, only questions like yours and a few others. I know enough about CSS to make the modifications if I only had the names of the folders and the structure.

    SM, Please release the list of classes so we can get on with migration!!!

    Have you tried to Make This Folder Custom at the top of the chain you want to manipulate? It's not completely natural to get to that point, but if you are logged in and browse to the starting place that you want to make special and then click Customize | Customize Site, you can then click Make This Folder Custom. You can then apply a different Theme (or create a new one), change any of the Layout settings, actually change the contents of the page (folder / content blocks), or add a CSS block to tweak what's there. You can reuse tweaked themes too, so applying a set of things to multiple pages, folders etc. should be pretty easy.

    I'm not 100% sure changes will "flow down", you you might want to test something small to make sure it works like you want before investing a ton of time into it.

    No problem, can you describe what you mean by Banner? And maybe talk a bit more about what specifically isn't working? The Flow Down part I get and think you are right on to want that (seems like an obvious option SM could provide), but I didn't have any trouble applying a 2nd theme to a folder (although it didn't flow down to subfolders / galleries, which was very disappointing), and I didn't have any trouble modifying elements on that now-custom-folder to look the way I wanted it to...

    It sounds like you have a specific desire but you haven't really described it in a way I (and perhaps others) can envision helping with. I definitely have seen a few sites with customization per area (sports vs. wedding, etc.) so something can be done, but I'm not sure how they did it or if it was a bunch of repetition.

    Thanks,

    Andy

    I just did a quick test and I was able to do something with it. If I remember your old site correctly depending on the gallery you had a different banner. This is what I did on my test and I was able to assign a different banner to a folder.

    For my site I made my homepage independent from the sitewide changes. I removed the logo from the entire site. Then on my home page I added a Logo to the header block and browsed to the banner I wanted to use. Then on my folder I added another logo block and browsed to a different banner.

    Its lots of work if you have many folders but it I THINK it will accomplish what you are trying to accomplish

    Was the logo added to a folder added to "entire site" or what?
    Did it flow down to galleries? To sub-folders?

    Looks like what you're saying is each folder/category (top level) gets a specific logo added.
    Luckily I have not that many top level folders.

    My logo/banner is a single photo added to "entire site". Same with menus.
    Haven't found how to make homepage independent yet.

    Thanks for all the info, just need to research it.

    No, it did NOT flow down. I understand the problem now. I missed that piece earlier. You would have to add it to each gallery. No Bueno.

    Could you be more specific as to how to add different banners to different folders and galleries? Thanks

    I changed my homepage banner (single photo entire site) to a logo (entire site). The logo class .sm-page-widget-logo-img
    can used to replace the "entire site logo" on every page but it has to be done individually on every page (This page Only).
    It's a start but I have 100's of pages, folders, and especially galleries. Next step is have Smugmug add flow down page
    classes so we can target sections. Folder > sub-folders > galleries

    You can do each page individually replacing the entire site logo. See my last post.

    I used this in "This page only" CSS.
    .sm-page-widget-logo-img {
      background-image: url(/photos/i-******/1/XL/i-*******-XL.jpg) !important;
      height: 64px!important;
      width: 900px!important;
      margin: 0 auto !important;
    }

    Because of the border I had applied to the logo I had to adjust height and width for
    the image and not sure if margin is needed.

    My question is simple: how can I add a logo (or banner)? I can't find it in the customization.

    put banner in description of gallery settings
    I have always put a banner in the description under gallery settings so it would show up on the pages, but the web/gallery addresses have changed and I am not sure how to change the code. Before I was able to just put in the file name at the end of the address, but that does not work now. Please help. Here is the old code. This is the old file name & it still shows up. The new address is http://www.actionjunction.com/Family...Q8/i-BLqxLLC/A

    <DIV ALIGN=CENTER>
    <img src="/photos/524150034_p7YQ4-XL.jpg"
    ></a>

    Thanks for any help,
    Jamie

    BTW - Al I think you are the one that gave me this code. clap.gif
