My trip to Europe-part 1-London

Got back a few weeks ago. I am still recovering from exhaustion and sore feet. The ground in Europe just somehow seems harder to me.

Started out in London... Day 1

We were only there for 24 hours and it was my friends' first trip to Europe so I had to show her as many sights as I could in a day...

Big Ben and the photo opportunity...

View from and Self portrait on the top of St Paul's Cathedral, very cold and windy up there.

Lunch at the Grenadier Pub (harder to find than you could ever imagine). Famous for being old and Haunted.

Guard at Buckingham Palace

My friend didn't Mind the Gap and she lost her shoe. I never laughed so hard in my life; Notting Hill tube station

This man had the squirrel on his lap but I just missed it!

Big Ben and Parliment at night

Michelle and I, Self Portrait in Piccadilly Circus

Famouse Harrods department store at night

Please feel free to add your London photos in this thread. I would love to see them!

Mind the gap

OMG, I remember that!

So what did your friend do when she lost her shoe? Did she hop around London with only one shoe? :-)

We thought that what was going to happen but when I stopped laughing and making a scene, I asked someone who worked there and he got a hook thingy and fished it out for her!

Well I guess they are used to retrieving things that fall in the gap!

Wonderful shots, Shawna.

I just got back myself from Liverpool and London. I particularly liked the Look Right/Look Left notations painted on the streets for us Yanks no doubt!

Yes I am fond of that too... check out my gallery, I have a photo of it that I quite like. It gets so confusing which way to look... guess that is why they told us as kids to always look both ways!

You mean Sin City right? Cool... I never saw the full movie but I knew what you meant right away. Good eye!

Absolutely, indeed, Spin City has nothing to do with Sin City

oh that's a shame, but I saw your galleries and you have great work.

I get a few from the London Eye by night a few months ago:

Wasn't raining, but couldn't get up in the day, sure it's a completly different view.

Lovely shots - particularly the night stuff.

When traveling to the US we Aussies (Right hand drive like the poms) have a saying to keep us out of trouble when crossing the road. "Death from the left" i.e, look left FIRST!! (it's worked for me so far)

Awesome pictures.

When my grandparents took me in 1994 I caught onto a saying my grandfather used everytime we got into the car and pulled onto a roadway. I liked it so much I used it as a friendly reminder when my wife and I went in 2004. Everytime we pulled out of a parking lot, petrol depot, etc. we would simply state "and we're driving left." It seemed to keep us out of trouble.

The best things are free

Spent a fair amout of time in London with the US Navy - used to give TubeTours to new arrivals.

Don't ever buy the rubbish that London has to be expensive since many of the best sites are free.

-The Horse Guards Parade
-The Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace
-The British Museum
-People watching on Oxford Street and at Trafalgar.

One of the best kept secrets are

1. good beer and food at very reasonable at Witherspoon Pubs
2. Breakfast and lunch in the basement of St. Martins in the Field.

Take a few moments to speak to the senior citizens. They all have great stories of the blitz and WWII. The stories get better every time they are told.
