Help with Ginger's site and gallery show, please?
Ginger's show opens on Sunday. I printed the photographs for it. Now we have a gallery of her photos which we know will print really well. So now Thusie, Ginger's family, and I would like some help to make her site and in particular her show gallery as good as possible. We welcome suggestions of all sorts, from direct low level answers to the questions below to very broad marketing suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Ginger's site is www.ginger55.com. The gallery for her show here.

Here is a list of things we know we don't know (to paraphrase the former Secretary of Defense):
  1. How to remove the shopping cart from all but the galleries where we really want it? Currently we have priced all but the prints in the show gallery at $0, making them unavailable for purchase. But it could be gentler.
  2. How to feature those galleries with prints for sale in a buy-prints sort of way that actually draws customers to them?
  3. How to make it clear that people should drop us a line if they want a print of an image not currently offered?
  4. Can we make the filmstrip larger in the show gallery? Is there a better way to present it?
And of course there are the things we don't know we don't know, and we'd love any suggestions or help at all.

Thanks in advance with any help on this.

Hi :)

You can turn printing off in all the galleries except the one you want by going into those galleries, and underneath a photo, click on gallery tools, then customize gallery. Scroll down to the printing section and check no. You can use the quick settings at the top to bulk change the other galleries, also.

You could feature the galleries where images are for sale on the home page and leave instructions in the bio section or in the gallery description in the gallery where the photos are actually for sale on how to get in touch with you to purchase. Couple of ideas.

Dealing with turning off the shoping carts I can handle..BUT, and I have no clue about how to customize, in the show gallery section there is a thumb of one of her photos and they do change, can those photos be made to appear as SM small size instead of thumbs? In other words how can we get the 'show' block to stand out more than the rest of her home page.

Thanks

Hmmm, well, we could hide everything on the home page except for the bio, and underneath the bio text, we could place a small image from the gallery where the photos will be on sale and we could make it clickable so it goes to that gallery. I would be happy to do that for you if it sounds like something you would like to try. Or, we can still do that, and leave the other galleries showing beneath the bio.

Hum...Rutt??? We do what her other galleries to show so people can request photos that aren't in the Show gallery..Do I have you completely confused now Barb? Just need to make her show gallery stand out more.

So there isn't anyway to make the normal gallery thumb, what you see before you enter the gallery bigger?

We could do that by placing a sample image in the bio section and allow people to click on that image to get to that special gallery. Otherwise, the thumbs are what they are on the home page.

If you can give me a link to the photo you would like to use on the home page, I'll place it for you :)

Right, Thusie?
Rutt, Thusie, let me know what you think. I've placed it in the bio and linked it to the gallery. Wording, etc., can be changed.

Sorry I bugged out yesteday.

The page looks great and the family really likes it! Thanks Barb.

I see where you can bulk change gallery settings at the top, but I only have two choices, Smugmug and price. Not being a pro user what does price do? Right now I'm changing each gallery one at a time to 'not print' and that is a lot of galleries.

Morning Thusie, if you use Dev's SmugBrowser with Firefox you can set
printing off at a high level and it will flow down thru all the galleries. No need
to do all the galleries one at a time. Then go in to any gallery you want
printing on and set it there. Mucho time saving.

Thanks again, Barb. This was really the right idea!

I took a pass over that home page and I hope it looks and works better. We welcome any other suggestions.

One issue is this. We'd really like to let people know to drop us a line if they are interested in buying a print not currently for sale. They could do this either buy email or by a comment on the particular picture. If email, how to keep from being spammed? Best to do this in the footers? Headers? Bio? Somewhere else? What about JS for the shopping cart that would present the message if someone tried to buy a print not for sale?

Thanks Al!

Nother quick question will I need to re-price the show gallery when I turn that one back on? I only ask so I can write down the prices so I don't have to bug Rutt

Couldn't we have people comment on the photo they want then have SM email notification that a comment has been made (requests for prints). Probably not the best way but doable?

I wouldn't think turning printing on and off has any effect on the prices set.
