Portrait AND Landscape Photos in Slideshow
I have been only using landscape oriented photos in my homepage slideshow. I was curioius if there is any way to change my code to accept landscape AND portrait oriented slideshow photos. I realize that I can put vertical photos in the slideshow but they are fitted into the landscape frame with black space on either side. Is there a way to have both types of photos in the slideshow and the rrame is appropriately put around each type of photo? Thanks in advance.

Maybe something is weird on my computer, but with Firefox your slideshow wasn't working. I saw the first image (boy w/ pink lips) for a LONG time and then finally another came up, then nothing.

Hey Jan, yeah...that's another problem I have but haven't taken the time to figure it out. I appreciate you taking a look.

Oh okay. So back to the original question...I have a mixture of photos in my slideshows, and the black on the sides just blends into the backgrounds.

I have a gray frame around my slideshow images. I guess if I deleted the frame, this could solve the problem. I wonder if there is any way to keep the frame but have the picture adjust to the picture.

You're using the old slideshow. If you switch to the flash slideshow, you could use the border parameter. That provides a border that hugs the photos, but it's flat - and you're currently using a beveled frame. That's a very different look. The type of frame that you're using you could also be used with the flash slideshow (see Andy's www.moonriverphotography.com site for an example) - but I don't know of any way of having a frame like the one you're currently using with different orientation photos, unless you make a frame that floats in the display area and doesn't actually touch the photos. Seems like there should be a way though, doesn't it?

In case you want to change, doc on the new flash show is at http://wiki.smugmug.com/display/SmugMug/Flash+Slideshow.

Denise, thank you for the suggestion.

To be honest, it has been a while since I even looked at my customization code and I am not too sure what to delete in order to add the new flash slideshow code you suggested. Any help? Thanks.

The old slide show doc is in this thread - http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=28348. If you look at the code & doc you should be able to recognize the old code that should be removed if you're going to switch to the new. There's a chunk of javascript, and there are the slide show parameters.

What I did when I switched was to add the code for the new slideshow to my javascript and create an html-only gallery that I could use to experiment with the settings for the new slide show. That way I could play without disrupting my site. After I had the parameters the way I wanted them, I replaced the old show with the new on my home page. (Before I did that I made a copy of old code, just in case I needed to go back.)

If you need help, there's a sticky at the top of this forum for requesting help with the new flash slideshow (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=73247).

If you want to see an example of the slideshow with the border generated by the slide show, you can take a look at my home page.

I have looked over my code and I am nervous about deleting lines that should be deleted. If anyone out there could help me get started with the change out to the new Flash slideshow I would really appreciate it.
