yes, there is a known problem with picasa 3 windows too. sounded like when the is time to address the issue it will be looked into, best workaround I found was to just create new albums online at smugmug before you upload to them with picasa, I haven't had any issues doing this, other then the extra step now. or you could just roll back to v2.7 till you hear word something has been fixed.

this problem is posted in a few threads, here's one

Just having a create new album problem is easy.. like you said, just make the album before uploading.. but what is keeping me real sad is that for example I have 400 MB of pictures (100 pictures maybe) and I just wish to upload them and go sleep, and next morning they are there. But picasa just doesn't upload all those files.. I should chunk them into 100 MB and keep doing that 4 times until I just finish from ONE album

so far i haven't found anything other then picasa that allows edits/crops and uploads, all in one program, you could always do all the edits/crops with picasa, save the jpg's and then use smugup.sh to upload them all from terminal, a round about solution, i've uploaded well over 2 Gigs at a time without any problems

all sorts of other apps found here too.

Linux - can't drag-n-drop into uploader
I'm using the "Simple" uploader, on Ubuntu 8.10 32-bit (Gnome 2.24 desktop), though the same complaint applies to previous versions -- this is not a new problem. It's a pretty trivial problem, but I'll bring it up nonetheless.

I can't seem to successfully drag-and-drop into the uploader. The "Add Folders..." and "Add Files..." buttons work fine, and I can select what I need in the file selection dialog box, but I'd really rather pick the files I want from my file manager (Nautilus) while I'm doing other file management (moving, deleting, organizing, etc.) and just drag them to the uploader, to avoid the extra steps.

I'm using Firefox 3.0.x. It doesn't seem to matter whether I use Sun Java 6, or the open-source IcedTea/OpenJDK 6 alternative. Same results either way. When I drag the files over the window, I get the little "+" mouse-pointer-hint suggesting that the system knows I want to copy files there, but when I let go of the mouse button, nothing appears in the applet window.

And I CAN drag-and-drop into other applications, including Firefox itself. The SmugBrowser Firefox extension works fine as a workaround, and I can drag-and-drop there without a problem.

Anyhow, it's an annoying little interface quirk and I'd love to see it resolved.

I have recently implemented SmugExport KIPI Plugin and it is currently released as beta:
http://www.digikam.org/drupal/node/414

KIPI Plugin integrates in various KDE 4.x photo applications:
- Gwenview - default photo viewer in KDE - http://gwenview.sourceforge.net
- Digikam - advanced photo management - http://www.digikam.org
- KPhotoAlbum - http://ktown.kde.org/kphotoalbum/

You can choose any of above and use SmugExport plugin to create new albums and upload photos.

Currently you would need to build this from source, but next releases of KDE4 based Linux distributions will probably include this by default (I am sure that Kubuntu 9.04 will).

Any comments/feedback appreciated.

And a happy new year to all readers!

Get a link trouble
I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 and of course firefox as my main browser, . When I go to the get a link option under share, all the different options are there, but the text will be 3/4 out of the box, and clicking in the box does not copy the link. Eventually it will flash and Say it copied... but doesn't actually do it.

Flash version is 9. And the behavior is repeated in the opera browser too.

Viewing page source will let me pick out the links I want... So it's a workaround for now at least.

Anyone have any ideas?

komododrop on acer aspire one linpus
Hi,

I've tried again and again to get komodo drop to work, first on my girlfriend's Acer Aspire One (Linpus Linux version) and now on mine.

It won't work.

It starts running, and the friendly red target appears, but then when I click on it to pop up a menu, the menu comes up and it freezes. Komododrop becomes completely unresponsive and i have to end the process.

Now, I'm no linux expert, just a beginner, so I could be doing something really dumb - does anyone have any advice?

Sorry I couldn't tell from this post if you were asking for more reports of the black button problem or how to fix it. I don't have a clue how to fix it if that was the question.

Same problem here with Debian and Iceweasel. (Rebranded Firefox) Can't highlight the link to copy manually either.

The only way I can link an image in Linux is to copy it to a gallery without right-click-protection, then right-click and "copy image address" from the gallery screen.

I see the same thing visually using Fedora11/ff3, but I can consistently get it to copy by clicking on the text rather than just in the box. Also, if I click in the address bar or open a new tab, and right click/paste, it works every time. Visually it's distracting to me, but functionally it seems to work ok.

Slideshow button is blacked out - FF on Ubuntu Linux
My slideshow button is blacked out in all galleries. I am on Ubuntu 9.04, FF 3.0.11 with flash plugin 10.0 R22.

I am attaching screenshot of blacked out button. I click on blacked out button and it briefly flashes the slideshow message "press esc to exit full screen..." and I can see the banner at the top with pics for a sec, before it returns to current view of gallery.

As far back as I can remember I haven't been able to use the slideshow. Just remembered because I tried to show someone the slideshow feature.

Thanks for any tips that might help..

We do not officially support Linux but there is no reason it should not work for you. I have actually seen this issue before. I think the problem was fixed by allowing javascript, or flash. Also, make sure you are not using a blocking plugin for Firefox. Some of the ad blockers will mess with the buttons.

Anyone have any experience with Ubuntu? Before I take the next step and download it, I want to know of any possible ramifications with my smugmug website.

I've searched on dGrin for this info and haven't found any and if this isn't the correct thread for this question, please forgive.

Download a livecd version of ubuntu and try it out. This is an image that loads into memory on your system and does not overwrite anything permanently. See if it does everything you need it to, and then reboot to your normal desktop.

First off Thanks for at least having a thread that is dedicated to Linux.

While reading through the thread I see people referencing using Picasa then using it to upload the photos to SM. When I try to install the Picasa button I get an error like can't open program or which program do you want to use to run this. Have tried it with Both FF 3.5-3.6 and Opera 10 messages a little different but same results. I contacted tech support and they told me it wasn't supported, which was okay until I can here.

So how is this being done? Inquiring minds want to know

Thanks
Allen

Hi Allen,
Matt emailed us at the helpdesk that he figured out a way to add the Picasa button on his Picasa (running via Wine). Here's what he did:
figured it out (by way of http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=898227):

1. visit http://www.smugmug.com/help/picasa-smugmug-uploader
2. copy link location for the "click here" link (looks like
picasa://importbutton/?url=
http://www.smugmug.com/photos/picasa/picasa2smugmug.pbz)
3. paste into the location bar and remove everything before http (
http://www.smugmug.com/photos/picasa...a2smugmug.pbz), slap [enter]
4. save to disk
5. Navigate to ~/.picasa or ~/.wine or ~/.winepicasa depending on how picasa
was installed. Drill down to ."../drive_c/Program
Files/Google/Picasa3/buttons" and put the .pbz file in there.
6. (re)start Picasa.

all done.

-matt
I don't know whether this might or might not work with the Linux version of Picasa. My guess is that you have to use the Windows version via Wine.

I run the straight Linux version of Picasa and following the directions it worked like a champ, I am uploading now using it. Seems a little slower than the SM Java one but still coll and handy.

The path to the buttons directory is /home/<userid>/.google/....<path below>

Thanks!

We are a step closer anyway, the button is there and you can highlight photos and click the Sm button and it ask for login info, Gallery info existing, new etc, then click upload and it all appears to be uploading the little picasa uploading deal shows on the right with a progress bar, when finished it says Sucess! 0 photos uploaded. I have always done this trying to create a new gallery in an existing category.

Am I doing something wrong here?
