I think a lot of it was aimed at the new or newer businesses, but there were a lot of insights I found extremely useful. I only saw the two feeds intermittently, but I found myself nodding my head at what she's saying. For example, the whole uploading only a very few photos to facebook and using her plus site to generate hype (i already use showit, so it's not a jump for me), what you should expect as or from a second shooter, etc. There are more, of course. Also, I found her to be very articulate.
I watched 2 hrs of it or so. A lot of practical advice how to deal with people (brides, grooms, vendors, etc), how to run the business and a lot of sales tips. I found it pretty interesting.

I agree. There was a lot of good information ... I had to agree with pretty much everything, it's nice to get some validation sometimes ) Especially if you haven't shot with an other photographer (besides your second) for years, it's good to hear other photographers talk open about their business.
The thing that I'm gonna look into is outsourcing my images. I would have never thought I'd do it, but with my little 1 year old I am running out of time (haven't had any time for myself for like years ... and now it's getting worse and I barely get to sleep anymore because of all the work ... ) So, I think I might send my photos out and only work on the key shots of the couple and some prep photos .. well, we'll see how much this would cost me ...
For all the newbies on here, go to Jasmin's blog / website, and definitely check her out, she has a lot of good information she's offering, and if you missed the interview, it might be worth the $$ to invest and buy the DVD from creativelife, there is a lot of stuff I would have loved to hear when I started out ...

I bought the photography/live wedding course she did on creative live a while back. Highly recommend it, and it covers the business side as well. She's very clever, and I think virtually any wedding photographer could learn a lot from her, even if their photographic style is quite different.
Btw, I ended up buying a sample contract from http://photographerstoolkit.com/contracts ... gotta say, best decision of the day, very well written, and I'll most definitely update my contract after having seen this! Well worth the $

I watched most of it. I felt like it was useful, but probably could've been condensed to just a few hours... there seemed to be a lot of talking with minimal value, and then every 45min or so something really useful would come out.... then another 45 min of talking...
That said, I'm glad I watched it too and it helped me feel like I'm on the right track. I'm also thinking of outsourcing the basic processing... I tend to have a really hard time just getting the basic image 'right' in terms of tone and white balance. I try and try and try and feel like I'm not making much progress. If I could just get the images 'right' through outsourcing, then I could tweak them and add something my own afterwards. So yeah, that's why I came here today... to search the history and see if this topic has come up before I'm not sold on it, just want to investigate...
I don't shoot weddings (too much work for me) but I did find most of what she said business wise to be useful, wedding photog or not. We're going to adopt her "under promise/over deliver" mindset and see what happens. A few of my clients get discounts on prints, or free prints or whatever I want just because I love them. It really encourages them to come back to me.
I agree with the comment about a lot of filler, I watched about 2-3 hours of her and had to turn it off because she was just talking alot for not saying anything.
Outsourcing seems like a GREAT idea - but - my style is reflective of me, I don't trust anybody other than myself and my husband to edit like I do. Seems like all she does is take the shots and never sees them again. I'm all for having a life outside work, but geez.
I did like her google calendar idea, that was one I'll have to remember.
All in all she had a few excellent pointers but she rambled on a bit trying to make her point sometimes.
Pretty simple thing. She put together a Google calendar with a few other wedding photogs in her area, when one of them receives a request but is already booked, they look at the group calendar to see who is free to send the referral client to. Client gets photographer and is happy, idle photographer gets booking and is happy.
There are a few "rock star" wedding photographers who are famous in the industry, and she is one of the most famous. Her business sense and people skills are at least as good as, if not better than, her photography.

I'm intrigued, what was the google idea?
