I like to use the 5x and 10x magnification modes when focusing manually. However, the zoomed in view goes away as soon as you hit record, is there a way to avoid that and keep looking zoomed in?

No. No way to do that that I've heard of. Most folks use one of these of some variation or another. That's the one I use. Zacuto is quite a bit pricier. Also the Hoodman Here, is a cheaper alternative that I know little about.

Yeah I've looked att all of those, but they can only magnify the one megapixel image on the screen... Bummer.
