The gang from SmugMug spent the last week up at Lake Tahoe hanging out and some people skiing/snowboarding and so forth.

Having just got my new 5D mkII, I decided to hit the slopes with it to test out the video...

I can't believe you took that camera on the slopes! And you guys lucked that it snowed a bit!

How long have you been skiing?

And did I get it right? Heavenly, Nevada side? Stagecoach? rolleyes1.gif

    I'm lusting after powder!

yeah, you're correct...we were staying just there on the bottom side of Stagecoach.

    I've been skiing since I was 5.

Monday was definitely the best day, we had heaps of powder and it just went off.

Cool shot, looked like a good day with low traffic.thumb.gif

Nevada side Heavenly for sure, nice long run.

Not sure what Dev's file was, but my 1 min full 1080 files from the 5d run about 275-300mb per minute.
    I had a 3:15 shot run about 935mb.

Smugmug beta will only let me load 500mb or less files.

So an 8 Gb card can record close to ~24 minutes of video? - impressive!

You have to resize it. I had a 550Mb 2 minute clip that I had to resize in order to upload in HD.

Pathfinder - I'm pretty sure the clip will stop recording at 4GB. You can always hit record again though once it cuts you off.

That was awesome, David. thumb.gifthumb I can't believe you shushed the whole mountain while filming. Very impressive, and great production with the music. Wow.

Ok, now I want to see you do that on a mogul run. mwink.gif

    Cheers,

I know you can resize to get under 500mb, was just pointing out the limit.
Id prefer they raise it to 1gb then have to resize all my 500mb+ raw clips.deal.gif:D

    Joel, thanks !

haha, don't know about a mogul run...my legs aren't what they were a few years ago.

But I have been investigating some mounting options, so that I could take it into the trees to ski some powder :D

At some point, the limit will be getting raised....but i'm not sure of the timing.

Great Clip! I imagine that would go extremely well with a James Bond music theme. thumb.gif

Absolutely incredible video.. I have been going back and forth on my feelings about the 5D mkII in the "do I really need a dSLR that can do HD video".... But the more I look into what it can do, the more and more I want one. :D

Now, all I need is money. :cry
