As I've learned from eons of e-mail... it is very easy to misconstrue someone's meaning or tone with the written word. A simple smiley goes a long way to convey understanding (such as sarcasm, especially).

I try to use them sparingly to accent a point, but they have become an accepted means of communication to a lot of people (you know who you are!

).

I say we ban capital letters, puctuation, smilies, and maybe vowels.

Here, I will start the trend of unoffensive communication:

Well, it's very interesting (at least to me and I like boring things.)

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy brown dog.

No "s". I learned:

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy brown dog's back.

Now look at that. A whole word full of redundant letters and it's only purpose is to get the very common letter "s" in there.

"brown" in the above, is redundant. The phrase (without the second "brown") is used as a typing excercise, and also a key test, for manual typewriters. All letters A through Z are used in the phrase.

Right. I have to stop myself from typing that second brown. But as you can see, it isn't easy to do.

Good gosh, I just read the thing about prices going up by a third, now I read this thread.

This thread alone is almost worth the extra money. Actually the way I could sell referrals is that if you have this place you don't need books for humor, use this thread. If you want more excitement, hop on over to the Challenges.

But after a few rounds of those, you will definitely appreciate a thread like this to take your mind off of mind numbing disappointment, or to share the excitement, whichever.
Just a few words to let you know how I appreciate Shay's wisdom, and the knowledge I have gleaned from Rutt, Andy and others.

Stop my Newsweek subscription, no news left in it anyway, throw out the broken TV, no more running to Costco (books), an hour away, at today's gas prices. Just pay 1/3 more on Smugmug and this part is easy.

Actually, I do love my smugmug acct, it is very late and I do need to get the appreciation bit, otherwise called Skp over with.
