Surf's Up

I am from Ohio, and have never actually seen someone surf before. Dragon300zx and I were shooting the Golden Gate from on top of a bluff on the mainland side above the fort. We saw this guy surfing and I had to try to get a couple of shots.

Before you tear them up, they were shot with a 170-500mm zoom from WAY high and away. This first shot of the GG is to show you where I was, the surfer is just to the right of the end of the drive.

Here are the best shots I have found of the series so far.

Yeah one of the things I can't complain is that I live near coast. Really enjoy surf shooting.

And boy you made it tuff on yourself and still did good thumb.gif
Actually I like the Gate shot as well thumb.gif

    Greaper!

Nice shots from on high. The waves break in a very spectacular way
towards the bottom of the bridge (more toward the end of the road).
Nice shots from the road as well.

Something about the harsh contrast makes these really cool, although seeing a little more detail on the surfers would be nice. I like the pics. This is a sport I wish I could learn conveniently. rolleyes1.gif

Come to California. You can surf and climb in the same day. In some
    spots, the same wave.

    Thanks Ian,

Commin from you that means something, I have seen your surfing shots. I wanted to go down there on the road and shoot from there, but you know me, Laughing.gif, I didnt want to have to walk back up.

    Greaper,

Good work in really lousy lighting thumb.gifthumb.gif I have tried this (down in the parking lot shown in the first shot) and gotten much worse results from a lot closer to the surfers than you were rolleyes1.gif

As Coldclimb mentions, the contrast in these shots is appealing. The first surf shot even has a little reflection of the surfer in the wave. That's very nice.

Light is all and you had very little to work with. I echo Ian's sentiments clap.gif
