Ive seen a G10 shot that is impressive (from Davev, )(and Dave you can post it again here pls)

but i want somemore images to gaze at!
(I would like to get one of these G10's but i would like to see more of what this camera can do.)

show me the money!!...err, i mean images!!!

1/200 sec. F 3.5 ISO 200 colour setting: off, mild CA visible at left upper corner

1/320 sec. F3.5 ISO 80 setting: vivid colours. love how the autumn colours came out. they really were that vivid!

SQweeiill!! 1/125 sec F4 ISO 200 colour mode: vivid

1/8 sec F4.0 ISO 80 (IS was really handy here) Colour setting: off

1/4 sec F 3.2 ISO 100 colour: ?

sorry for my ignorance, but do these type of cameras usually expose the sky so white during midday shooting?? like that of Ian the 4x4 king...

oh, and who is Barack Obama or even John McCain?

Chris, really cool to have such low noise compared to the P&S from years past eh?:D

these shots were made in london during autumn which meant clouds clouds and more clouds but i think p&s cameras have a tendency to whiten the sky. I've seen it before on my old p&s cameras at least. or maybe its something im doing wrong

The noise is horrible above ISO 400 but below 200 its really nice. the IS works well which helps keeping the ISO low.

You'll have to see if the camera is right for you. i think it is a nice everyday trips (nature maybe as well) and travel camera but sports and nightshooting.. not so much..

not something to take to the bar either (due to the hefty $$$) good luck choosing.

P.s you can pixelpeep on my site if you choose original sizes.

Depends, I had it on P mode. I'm sure I could have protected the highlights if I wanted to, but I didn't care

A couple of shots.
ISO 800 isn't the G10's strong point.

High School Choir (both shots iso 800)

A little closer (different shot)

At night

This sounds weird, but shot through yellow glass.

And in the studio. (I had to try it) (very little done to these)

iso 800 a behind the scenes look. (lots of noise at first, I did a lot to this one)

iso 800, 3/10's of a second, handheld, a little defused glow added.

That's enough.

ive been on the IR fence for a long time now and everytime i get ready to jump, one of my kids end up costing me money and then i pull back the plans....

Davev, somehow i missed your post....!!!

wow, iso800 is not friendly....but its still better than missing a shot of something important.
most of my shooting will be lowest iso and with warm light....
or it will be shoots where i just dont care if they have noise or not or highlights or not, etc...etc...

i really wanted to see how this camera framed a composition and those sorta things.... seems wide enough for me....!

G10 Guys, Question:

does the IS feature turn off & on ?

will i have issues when using a tripod and IS is on?

in otherwords, i understand from the pros, big lenes with IS turned on while on a tripod will incur blur from the IS itself...

so is it true with a P&S IS lens type also?

so, do you think f8 is good to use with this camera?

yes Aaron, the IS turns off, and yes turn it off when using tripod....
but note: tripod is not necessary at all with this little bugger of a camera

this camera only comes to its right in the right hands. if your still learning, the good thing is, you will not outgrow it soon.

glad you like yours. My gf is going on a lot of trips soon so im curious of what shots she takes home with her.

The shots look good Aaron.
You answered your own question about the i.s.
About the f8, I don't think it matters that much with these small sensor cameras.
Guessing that the middle of the road F stop should be the sharpest, F4 and F5.6 should work the best.

The G10 will have some serious diffraction issues if you stop it down to f/8. You'll get much sharper photos shooting the lens wide open or almost wide open. IIRC, the camera is diffraction limited at apertures larger than f/4. With the small sensor, depth of field is easy to achieve, so don't be afraid to just leave it wide open or nearly so, though of course i recommend doing some of your own testing in the process.

Here is an example of what you can do with a G10:

"My final photo is made up of 220 Canon G10 images and the file is 59,783 X 24,658 pixels or 1,474 megapixels. It took more than six and a half hours for the Gigapan software to put together all of the images on my Macbook Pro and the completed TIF file is almost 2 gigabytes."
