I took a look at the entries and they are simply fabulous and very intimidating.
The first two are new versions. The last one is in my original link.
This last one is a crop to see if that is more appealing.

I think the idea works. To me the series has a taste of humour as well. #3 works best imo, the background creeping up into the front makes me feel uneasy. The other backgrounds rather make me think 'radial blur'. Good luck!
