The Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation operates to preserving the memory and legacy of the Berlin Airlift. As part of that, they operate a Douglas C-54E as a flying museum, with displays depicting the airlift inside the aircraft. Although the BAHF is based out of Toms River, NJ, the C-54 spends her winters at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, NY, in the Historic Aircraft Restoration Project (HARP) hangar, where she undergoes maintenance and upkeep. Today, with the winter's work done, she departed FBF, to prepare for another air show season.

She was towed away from the HARP Hangar, out onto one of the old FBF runways. After engine start, she taxied to another nearby runway for departure.

The BAHF also has a C-97 in the HARP Hangar, undergoing restoration (it was flown in about 6 years ago). One of the volunteers working on her over the weekend told me they expect to have her flying in about 12 to 14 months.
