A Few Simple Shapes and Lines in My Part of the World
I started looking at this part of Dgrin a couple of days ago and am trying to spend more time with camera in hand, so I thought I would post a couple of photos I took with this first assignment in mind.

Not sure if there is a "current" assignment just now or not. If there is, I am happy to jump to that one.

    Cheers.

Intrinsically lovely as well as fitting the theme. Thanks for sharing it here.

    Thank you for yout entries!thumb.gif

Grass blades would be great if you left shadows only.
Cathedrals are too complicated with the other details. We need the primary elements be, uhm, primary, not just be somwhere in the image.
    Last one is solid! thumb.gif

Yes, this is stronger with just the shadowy lines.

Here is one that I thought might work for diamonds or lines.

And it does! thumb.gif Your best entry for this one thus far! clap.gif

I don't know how many shots I took of lattice and most weren't as sharp as I had hoped. That's why I tried the next one.... But glad this one worked well! Thanks.

Have I fulfilled this assignment well enough at this point or should I keep working on it with other shapes?

Yes, I can see that. Thank you for helping me develop a more critical eye.

I entered it here to replace the triangles found on a nearby cathedral. But if it works for the stone class, I will enter it there! There is also a large stone in a nearby park which I haven't visited for a decade, so I may check it out sometime.

Thanks. I appreciate your input, seeing what others are doing, and the way these assignments help me pick up the camera more often than I might otherwise.

I realize that I am really late to the game on this one, but figured that I'd try my hand at the assignments. It got me to shoot some objects that I never would have otherwise, so thank you Nik for getting me off my butt and looking at things a little differently!

Anyways, here are the two shots that I got this morning for Shapes:

    522537679_tXqAy-L.jpg

This one is a close up of a manhole cover.

    522537499_2d3Vs-L.jpg

    A fire hydrant from above.

I didn't dig through all 22 pages of posts to see if anybody else had submitted homework that was similar so if that is the case I sincerely apologize for any lack of originality that I have displayed.

Critiques and nits are always welcome!

First one is a bit more than a simple shape IMHO (rounded square), but the second one is definitely a nice collections of simple shapes:-) thumb.gif

Foiled by rounded corners! At least one of them fit the assignment. Thanks for the grade, Nik!

Ooo, I like the mounts. The hard lines add contrast. But the background. Sigh...

Late to the party... Now where's that note?
Firstly. I 'd like to say a big thanks to you Nikolai for keeping this tread running. I have only recently found this site and would love to take part in this learning process. So here are my first attempts at basic shapes.

    Lines

Welcome, Lori and Kenno! Great to have some other folks (who have recently joined dgrin) working on these assignments!

    Gretchen

P.S. I've been enjoying the other recent contributions as well!

    Thanks you, nice entries!
I think #1 would benefit from a tighter crop to its dual pyramid, since the rest of the frame is messing the simplicity.

Appreciate the feedback. I agree on the first one. I think it would be better cropped in more :)
