Girls Gymnastics State Championships

A few shots from the Level 5 young girls competition. Toughest shoot I've ever had.
A little advanced info—Lighting wasn't too bad, but the meet was held in a training facility and not only was there apparatus everywhere which limited shooting positions, but spectators were right up against the edges and coaches and athletes were crowded all around, making the backgrounds suck. :rolleyes

The vault event was almost impossible to capture faces.

All in all I had a great time. The kids were great and no one hassled me one bit about moving around the area. Oh, and did I mention there were a little over 500 competitors... I was pretty busy for two days.:huh

Shot with the D300, 70-200 2.8, and D200, 17-55 2.8.

    The other thing that I forgot to mention—the floor ex music—because everyone does the same routine on each event, the same music was played over and over and over again... from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm... constantly... for two days. eek7.gifeek7.gif . I still had fun, I think?

    I have heard that music so many times....wish I never had to hear it again. At least at the elite levels, they don't have to have the same song. Good shots in tough conditions. Backgrounds are really hard to control ( usually no control at all) in these gyms. My daughter competed at a Nationals event in OK City, OK a few years ago and every apparatus had a sponsor-banner behind it, would have been a great background to shoot against....if I had been shooting back then.
