Nova Scotia (Photo Ops??)

Hi all.
I'll be up in Halifax for a week at the end of June. I intend to visit Lunnenburg and Peggy's Cove. Any other must see/shoot landscape/seascape/cityscape places you can recommend?

I've only been once, and was only in NS for 48 hours, but my galleries from that plus a week in New Brunswick are here:

I know there is much more to NS, and lots in Halifax itself, to see. Our relatives took us to a great Immigration Museum, and there were really beautiful buildings nearby. I wasn't in control of the stopping for photo ops, sadly!

Snowgirl is from NS, so I am sure she can recommend some places!

Hi. I've been corresponding with Jack a bit with some suggestions.

I'm actually from New Brunswick (the home of covered bridges

) but went to university and lived in Nova Scotia for several years.

The immigration museum is called Pier One and is right downtown in Halifax. There's also the Citadel and, of course, the waterfront areas.

Just noticed that you're traveling soon - too bad it wasn't mid-July when the tall ships festival is being held in Halifax. It'd be packed with peopled - but good fun.

Have a wonderful trip. Flying, driving? Route - by boat from Bar Harbour to Yarmouth, NS? Or driving up through NB?

I just looked through your albums. EXCELLENT work! In the Saint John one it was interesting to see my birthplace through someone else's eyes! I was married in Trinity Church!

I now live near Sussex, NB, and my Dad's whole family is from Albert County - all around the Hopewell Rocks.

I lived on the Kingston Peninsula for years too.

My current home is on the banks of the Kennebecasis River and that barn you shot is just a few miles a way.

Blue Rocks.
Halls Harbour (lobster pound, good place to observe the tides)
Cape Dor
- Cabot Trail , Fort Louisburg , these would take 1/2 day travel from Halifax.

To properly do the Cabot Trail, stopping to take pictures etc., would take at least 6 hours - minimum. Allow a full day once you reach there.

Nice place to stay for the night? Port Hope. Cabins by the sea overlooking the Bay

Downtown Halifax has lots of things to photograph. As mentioned, the waterfront is an excellent spot. There is an area on the waterfront called the Historic Properties with old buildings from the early 19th century, lots of cobblestone and cool doors. Oh and Public Gardens is gorgeous. I couldn't quite do it justice, but just to show you some of the gardens, I have a gallery of it:

It's within walking distance of the waterfront.

Oh wow, living on the Kennebecasis - certainly on my list of possible retirement places!

If I ever get that way, Ceci, I will make sure I let you know. (Hmmm, maybe you should set up a pre-shoot for this fall!)

Halifax is a wonderful place for photo opportunities, but IMHO the real jewels are found out in the broader countryside. Here are a few of my examples from passing through the area and surrounding region a couple years back. Enjoy.

Thanks so much Ann, Ceci, Steve, canuckity, and gerry. I just printed out my boarding pass for tomorrow's flight so this will be my last post. I loved all of your galleries and can't wait to get there. I was born and raised in New Bedford Mass. (an old whaling town...think Herman Melville and Moby Dick) so I am looking forward to the seaside villages of NS.

PS Now I have to plan a trip to P.E. Island (it looks magnificent).

We love it - except during the spring floods.
