NYC gear suggestions

Not sure if this belongs here or in the accessories forum...

I'm off to NYC next month and in a quandary about lens choices for the trip. I want to limit myself to 2 lenses to save my back, knees etc. I'll take my D90 and G9 (backup).

Here are the choices:

nikkor 85 1.4D
nikkor 35-70 2.8D
nikkor 80-200 2.8D
nikkor 50 1.8
tammy 28 2.5 MF (won't meter on D90)
nikkor 18-135mm kit lens (old faithful)

Last year I took my 85 and my kit lens. I'm tempted to take my 35-70 this year (didn't have it last year) for walk around but wonder for street stuff/buildings if it might not be wide enough.

Suggestions (particularly from New Yorkers or those who've visited)?

    what are you trying to capture?

    do you lean to street or architecture photo, etc...

    Mostly street/people but architecture as well.

    the 18-135 you'll need for the wide.

    id take the 70-200 as well.

    That's what I used for my NYC photos last year till I dropped the 18-135 in Central Park. I think Mimi cried. $200+ later it was repaired.

    I'd love to take the 80-200 but it's bulky and heavy to tote around. I'm hesitant to drag it with me around the city.

    I was in NYC in early June. Though I carried a 18-55mm and 70-300mm I rarely used the larger lens except when we went to the Bronx Zoo. I was shooting with a D80.

    Thanks! Good to know. I'm not planning on a zoo visit this trip but the long lens would be good for candid portraits. I don't want to tick off the NY'ers.

    Thanks for the swag (packed for the flight back to Toronto tomorrow) and a great day at chez Williams, Andy. clap.gif I'll never have to eat again. Will post photo of Roxanne when I get home.

    Not sure how it happened but my lenses seem to have multiplied sinceI arrived in NY. There must be some fertility rite going on at B&H.mwink.gif

If you want people + architecture go for 85mm plus wide angle.

    
For what it is worth, the last time I went to NYC I rented the 14-24mm

I rent from lensrentals.com but since you are on a D90 you won't get the full width, but it will still be pretty decent.
