Upload Problem

I have uploaded a few photos without any problem, but today for some reason, they do not appear to be showing in the gallery allocated. It all looks normal, the load bar goes aross at the normal speed, everything looks to have uploaded, but nothing showing in the gallery. Had a quick look in another gallery, just in case, but nothing there. I successfully uploaded about 50, but all attempts appear to be failing now. Connection looks fine, everything else is loading ok, webpages etc. Tried two different ways of upload, no different. Any ideas?

Ok, I can see the problem, I've exceeded the 12mb limit!

Hi,

I'm Christina, a support hero here at SmugMug. We're sorry that you're having trouble uploading.

I checked your upload log and it looks like you may be trying to upload photos that are over the size limits. The current size limitations on photos are:

12 megabytes for Standard and Power users
24 megabytes for Professional users
48 megapixels for all users

Check out number 3 on this page for information on how to resize your photos without losing quality:

You can check your upload log by clicking on the Stats tab in the Control Panel and then clicking up on Upload Log.

That's OK, thanks anyway. Can you explain the 48megapixels? I use Photoshop a lot, I'm OK at resizing etc, so no problem getting the file size down below 12MB, just unsure about the 48megapxels.

The 12, & 24 megabytes I can understand, but can you explain the 48 megabyte - for all users ??

It's 48 megapixel, not megabyte (12 and 24 are megabyte though).

I'm guessing that it may be a pixel limitation of the software used to resize the image into the various display sizes (that's just speculation on my part though).

Megapixels is file dimensions in pixels. Example, 3000x2000 pixels is 6megapixels.

Ok, thanks, I'm hardly likely to exceed that! I'd have thought the megapixel size was not that important, more the file size. I have suscribed to many sites in the past, and whilst most have a max file size, I have not come across a max megapixel size before.

Big megapixels files can be a huge processing drain. Try it on your own photoshop and then multiply that times thousands, tens of thousands

I believe you, but as I said, I've not seen it mentioned before.
